Need advice on a Juicer...

Hey Guys & Gals,

I need to purchase a Juicer or a new blender in the next couple of weeks to kick off the diet...

I have been eying the Vitamix5200... but I am not sure if that will work.

I am open to suggestions, and again I thank you all in advanced for your responses.

Think of a blender on super-steroids - that's a Vitamix. I've got one and it blows away all the other blenders I've ever used. If you buy one they come with a complete recipe book for instant use.

I've had excellent results with the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer- juice about anything you can stuff down the pipe, as long as there isn't a stone or pit. Besides that, whole apples, bunches of grapes, it'll juice it all.

It's key to my famed apple cider- a gallon of juice with pulp is my starter.

We have the Vitamix 4500 and find it to be an insane beast of a blender. Ideal for reducing anything you want blended into individual molecules. Turns frozen berries + bananas + protein powder + ice into an instant shake, then practically cleans itself (you fill it mostly with water and a few drops of soap, then run the blender for a minute and voila!)

For straight juicing we use the Breville IKON, which is a very nice machine, built strong for daily use (which we do) and easy enough to clean. Easier than other brands we have used in the past, anyway. Adjustable dial changes the speed to match what you are running through, and if you are really sneaky you can use the pulp in some super healthy raw food recipes.

If you plan on juicing vegetables, leafy greens, and fruit, I would recommend just the Breville, but if you want to do wheatgrass too, the Vitamix tears holy hell through that stuff and whatever else you decide to throw at it. Wheatgrass is pretty tough to extract, otherwise.

Good luck deciding, and have fun getting healthy!

Blendtec is supposed to be pretty darn good as well....never used them, but I've seen their videos online "Will it blend?"...very entertaining...seems to be extremely powerful.

I really love my Blendtec smoother especially in the summer when I make instant ice cream from frozen fruit or mix ice with fruit/fruit juice. Other than the Vitamix, I think Waring looks like a beast too with peak power at 3.5 HP (about 2600 Watts) and 30K rpms.

You can get specification comparisons here:

now this is just what i read, which might just be marketing hype but i read that higher rpms aren't necessarily a good thing because it heats the nutrients.

This is true. If one leaves the Vitamix on for a while, it can actually warm up whatever you are blending. However, since the thing is so powerful it would be unnecessary to leave it on for long enough to warm anything except on purpose. I'm not sure if it's the friction or simply the mechanism heating up, most likely a combination of both.

Those videos are great.

I have a Breville Icon and It is a beast of a blender. I like some texture in my smoothies and If you aren't careful when you make a smoothie it will turn it into a liquid.

What is the difference between a blender and a juicer?

A juicer is made to extract juice from stuff. You get juice in one container and pulp in another. A blender mixes stuff together. These super blenders must have the ability to reduce whatever you put in it to juice.

All great points and suggestions to consider... I am still pondering and will continue to do more research...

I have a friend that uses her vitamix to make soups...

Soups out of a blender...

Alright I got the thumbs up on the Vita mix 5200 blender... Now I am looking into a kick *** high power food processor... :)

The Vitamix is a great choice. I hope you'll post a picture of it making some lather...
Are you opening up a restaurant? if you plan to have several customers a day, I'd check out Robot coupe. For home use, I'd skip over Magimix as they're too flimsy and clumsy.
