Mystery 5 day set

Got this today along with a pile of razors. Interesting piece. No maker's name anywhere. Only marks on it are a "1". It has one on the end of the tang and every blade is also marked with the "1".
The scales are very smooth and reddish with mottling that shows when back lit. It has a few worm bites but is in pretty good shape. All fits nicely in the box and the box has two different type leather strops on it.

Anybody have any ideas about its lineage? I'm gonna take a SWAG and lean to French.

The short,stubby tail would indicate French to me. I'v never seen a set like that. It looks ike it would clean up really well. Shame about the broken blade. It looks likeit's missing a bit at the front

I have no idea but that's a nice set and should clean up nice. Could the 1 be indicating which end of blade goes where?

Thanks, I think it'll clean up pretty well. THE blade with the tip missing still works, but will droop. One blade has rust worms on the edge and will have to be honed back a bit and re-polished to cure what some dummy did with flint paper.

I think all the "1"s signify that everything went to that set myself.

It's darn sure different.

The replaceable blade design would suggest quite a bit later. The French used stub tails and even no tails for quite some time compared to other countries.

I'd be guessing 1910-1920

It's a neat set.
