My single edge score! - help with dating needed

Compared to the Rocketman, I'm an amateur

Ahhhh - help with dating needed. Hmmmm. I see!! Or, should I say I didn't see!! Oops!

Thanx for all the input guys - it is much appreciated. I think Dave is on the right track with this razor being late 1800's. The question for me though is where?? It is possible the design for this razor goes back to the 1870's, but I am not sure when exactly they started. Dave noted that they resemble the first Kampfes, but perhaps the Kampfes resemble the Comfort! I suspect the font of the logo might be useful if I can sort what design it is and when it was used.

These razors were marketed at least into the early 1900s, but a giveaway on this razor's era is the size of the box. The very early razors mimicked the box styles of straights to some degree - the box was very minimalist. Straights also came in litho tins (the comfort came in a litho at certain times also) and some came in cases with latches. These were typically made to just fit the razor. It wasn't really until quite late in the 1800s that razor cases began to become fancy and roomy. Some sets had strops and blades and all sorts of stuff added to make the sets more impressive. But the early items were in small cases for the most part.

This razor does not have a patent - it is marked DRGM which is essentially patent pending for Germany. So it can't be tracked that way. I'm not sure how to go about narrowing it down more. I kind of suspect this one may predate the Kampfe late 1880s release of their razor, but I am not sure how to determine that (or maybe I just hope that!).

As for shaving with it, the blade would need a fair bit of prep work and I may do that, but not at this point. I am still working on my sharpening/honing skills and don't want to muck up this one and only Comfort blade. I absolutely do intend to at some point though - and hopefully it will be sooner than later. I will report!!
