What's new

My perfect (pre) birthday shave.

Today is my birthday, I shave in the evenings so yesterday evenings shave was my (pre) birthday shave. I wanted it to be good.

I loaded my EJ DE89L with a fresh Feather blade, so fresh that it was the first blade from a new packet. It glinted in the light when I opened the envelope and if it had a personality, I could tell it was arrogant, it knew it was the sharpest blade on the planet and it was daring me to shave with it.

As I tightened the head on the razor, I gave it an extra twist, just to let the blade know that I’m the boss!

First I filled my mug with warm water and dunked my Simpson Duke 3 in best badger into the water to soak for a few minutes, then I ran the hot water to fill my sink. Once that was done, I soaked a flannel and held it to my face for 30 seconds or so.

My current favourite cream is Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Shop and I had a new tub ready for use. I rubbed the cream liberally onto my face, making sure to get everywhere with it and not cheating on the quantity. This was going to be a luxurious shave, I was getting excited.

I squeezed around half the water out of my nicely soaked brush and began to face lather. I’d gone so overboard with the cream that it didn’t take long to whip up a rich, creamy lather, thick in texture but not too thick. The brush quickly tamed the cream and gave me a face full of lather that would have won a prize at this years ‘best lather in the world’ competition.

I shaved. The Feather blade just sliced through my growth, cowering at my skill with the razor and doing exactly what it was supposed to. I made one pass with the grain, splashed a little water on my face, relathered and then made another pass across the grain. I returned to my tub of cream and added another light coating to my face before whipping that back into a lather that equalled the first coating. My third pass against the grain was good and the final touch ups to my neck were the icing on the cake!

I splashed cold water to my face, cleaned up and applied TOBS Shaving Shop aftershave gel. This was without a doubt the best shave I’ve ever had. My daughter checks my shaves and she couldn’t find a single rough patch anywhere on my face, this is a first, I think there’s always been one little area I’ve managed to miss.

This morning I showered as I always do and applied my normal TOBS Shaving Shop aftershave gel followed by TOBS Shaving Shop cologne and even though it was ten hours since my shave, I still couldn’t feel any regrowth. Fantastic!

I only opened one of my birthday presents this morning and it happened to be a bottle of TOBS Shaving Shop aftershave lotion so I had a good splash of that as well. I feel and smell good today.

I had dropped hints that I wanted that aftershave and I’d also mentioned a Merkur 39C so there’s a chance that could be in one of the other presents that I’d not opened, one did look the right sort of size.

It's only ten to nine in the morning but it's already been a good day!

Replying to myself because nobody else has!

I was right - My wife gave me a Merkur 39C. Here it is being checked out by Danbo.
