What's new

My "new" travel brush

I travel for work a lot and had been using a limited-use Art of Shaving badger brush which tends to shed and is pretty floppy. So I was able to get a great deal on B/S/T on a Muhle 31K252 with the v2 synthetic fibers and it just arrived. I almost can't wait for my next trip. :001_tongu

Seems midway between my Frank Shaving Pure Badger and my boar brushes, so guessing it will be good for both soaps and cremes. Am I correct that the synthetics don't require a soak but rather a quick dunk/rinse and they are ready to start the lather?

Congrats on your new Muhle. You do not need to soak it, just wet it and go. I have the exact same Muhle with faux horn handle I use for travel, except mine is the 19mm vs. your 21mm. You are going to love it for travel. After my shave, I shake it out a couple of times, strop it once or twice on my towel, and stand it up on the bathroom counter. by the time I am dressed and have breakfast, the brush is dry and ready to be packed back in my dopp kit.

I bought it for just travel as I have a few favorite boar & badger brushes I use at home. But I will keep digging out my dopp kit even when I'm not traveling, just to shave with it.

Enjoy your brush. Mine is 23 mm and for me is the perfect travel brush that I use in my regular rotation, too.

I bought one for the same reason, but it wound up being put into regular use. It will take a few uses to get the hang of the way it lathers as it's quite different from a natural brush, but once you do, you'll be hooked.

I just bought a Whipped Dog synthetic. It's been an incredible lather builder. It's hitting the road with me next Tuesday.

L-R, Black Badger, orange-ish resin handle; Silvertip, Firehouse pottery handle; Synthetic, black resin handle...all Whipped Dog.

My FS synth has been in the rotation since last year. She's out for a road trip next week. Just debating wether to stick with Arko and the synth or go with Erasmic cream. It lathers both pretty good.

I finally used my Muhle yesterday. While I initially placed it midway between my FS Pure badger and my boar brushes, that was too simplistic and after using the Muhle to lather with, my take is that while knot has more "backbone" than the badger brush, the ends of the brush seem even softer than the badger brush (well broken in, btw). Reckon the brush was designed to "feel" closer to more luxurious badger brushes than mine. It held the water needed to lather, then held the lather through three passes without a problem.

btw, I switched back to my Semogue 1305 this AM. Way different feel.
