What's new

My new ShaveMac 439 Silvertip D01 arrived - Pic heavy post......

It finally arrived, both my Simpsons Polo 10 and old ShaveMac 439 Silvertip were unfortunately stolen along with some other stuff, so had to reorder and this time went for the Silvertip in D01 quality.

I had hoped to get this more bulb like shape, as shown on the ShaveMac website:

Instead I got this shape, sort of a combo of a fan and a bulby shape:

Since my plan is to use this BIG brush for bowl lathering only, I'm not sure the shape of the knot will suit me that well....

It will definitely bloom a lot more once I get it washed and wet and start using it - but I had hoped for a bulb shaped know like shown on the Shavemac website.

Should I email Shavemac and Bernd about it or just enjoy my new Silvertip D01 HUGE brush, and STFU :a38:

If you don't know it, this brush is HUGE - as in Simpsons Polo 12 huge, it even dwarfed my Polo 10 and makes my Kent BLK8 look smallish....

It's almost 13.5 cm tall, the handle alone is almost as large as my entire Simpsons Duke 2 brush (handle + brush head)

Here is the specs for the 439 ShaveMac:

Knot size: 26 mm
Handle height: 70 mm
Knot loft: 61 mm
Total height: 131 mm
It's my goto perfect shaped scuttle lathering brush - but need to know if it's worth getting the more bulby shaped knot instead of this more fan shaped knot.
I will NEVER EVER use this for face lathering - I have 7-8 other great brushes especially bought for face lathering purpose (Duke 3 2-Band, Duke 2 Best, ShaveMac Custom Fan, Mühle Silvertip Sophist, Mühle Silvertip Fibre 21 mm & 25mm, Chubby 2 2-Band)

I like fan shape for D01 knots. It's a very stiff hair, and doesn't need more backbone, which a bulb would give it. And fan shape makes it feel like a bigger knot compared to the same size bulb.

I thought my last Shavemac 439 was Silvertip D01, and it felt very very velvet like soft, but had a bulb shape.
Now I think maybe the guy I bought it from - brand new - lied when he told me it was the D01 Silvertip, it might just have been the regular Silvertip then

Bernd told med the D01 2-Band would be very stiff, but I didn't think the D01 3-Bander would be anything but softer than the regular Silvertip.......

oh, I like it

Thanks !

WOW!!!! Very, very nice!!

Thanks !

Should I email Shavemac and Bernd about it

Yes. Do send Bernd an email. Refer to the photo that represents what you prefer. Part of the satisfaction of the wetshaving madness is having what we want. Or, at least, what we think we want.

Maybe Vlad is right, D01 might be better in fan shape or.....?

In my experience they are more densely packed as well; this allows the fan or in your case a bulb/fan hybrid to offer plenty of backbone.

very dense excellent backbone , little bit scritcy with white soft tips..

Okay, thanks for info :001_smile

Just not sure I need backbone in a 'scuttle lathering only' brush. Will never use this for face lathering, not at all !

Is that Silvertip D01 2-band hair ?

Yours are both bulb like in shape......the shape I prefer in a scuttle brush.

Awaiting Bernd to answer my request......

CHSeifert,

Beautiful! Enjoy it!!!!

+1 for the pre-2005 pre-D01 Shavemac Silvertips! Glad to see another high loft one too. Mine is a 23/62 from 2002 which may sound crazy to a lot of folks but it is extremely dense with nice backbone!

Here next to a Rooney 2/1 Super.

I like your furniture very much Claus, is it new or vintage?

The brush is very nice also.

Thanks :001_smile

Dinner table and chairs are new, couch and sofas are vintage - I like mahogany and darker wood colors, while most of my generation has everything in plain new white, which to me is nice but a bit boring :biggrin1:
