My Guess... 3017

Haslinger remnant finished up this weekend so I've pressed down a half-left sample of Bufflehead Idle Hour. Prior uses of this soap were very good so we'll see what I think this go around. Not sure how long it'll last, but probably a few weeks if I had to guess.

My first shave of vintage tallow AoS was absolutely glorious! My previous 3017 product (TOBS cream) was ok - nothing bad or special - but it was handily put in its place by this AoS tallow puck. I am going to be enjoying the next several months worth of shaves.

Williams is gone, moving on to Shannon's Soap Black magic.

The AoS tallow was something special. I think I have 3 lavender pucks in reserve.

Been knocking off some various samples of creams and soaps of late.

New month starts tomorrow so I’ll be on an 80% remaining DRH Windsor puck. Grated and ready to rumble...

So very happy to be back using AoS tallow lavender. This is going to be a great 3017. Valobra makes a wonderful hard tallow soap. I have an unused puck of Valobra fougere I’m looking forward to trying one of these years.

My time with Shannon Black Magic soap was ghoulishly short. My wife deemed the scent frighteningly awful and I am afraid of her so off it goes into the soap graveyard. Now I have to go back to the soap stash and find something wife approved

Happy Halloween to those who celebrate this!

Tabactober is through, and I will not continue using my Tabac soap stick. I simply cannot stand the scent- one month was enough. Great performer though, I’ll give it that.

Finally finished the C&E Nomad that I started Independence Day. Just short of four months of pretty good shaves. I took 5 days off for a trip to Madrid and it's Nov 1, soo... Again, won't go out of my way to get it. I have a bunch of products that lather better. This is certainly not a dud, though.

First shave with AOS tallow Sandalwood tomorrow. I may have taken one shave with it when I first received the puck in a trade. Should last 2.5 months. The scent is strong and nice, though Sandalwood is not my first choice of scent. I prefer citrus and marine notes. Looking forward to this puck!

Excellent choice @sgemmett. I used my lavender again this morning. Gosh this makes a fantastic lather. The lavender scent itself doesn’t compete with the likes of Oxford and Cambridge, but it’s perfectly fine.

I thought the same when I used a puck of lavender. The performance is top tier, I'd have to give up shaving if I was to let a so-so scent deter me from using this :thumbup1:

As expected, AOS tallow Sandalwood produced a denser, more protective lather than C&E Nomad. Very good post shave feel. And it certainly has an Autumn appropriate scent.

Yeah. Used the tallow AOS again and it is great soap. There are a few soaps that start to develop a great lather almost as soon as the water hits it. Vintage Old Spice and Tabac are two that feel the same as soon as the water hits the puck.

I am only a few shaves in to AoS tallow but I am simply in awe of its performance. If anyone knows the reason for the reformulation, please share.

I tried to 3017 a puck of Williams. Face lathered with it, but felt I wasn't getting the slickness of other soaps. I used it for 12 shaves, I really wanted to like it. I use straight razors. Yesterday I did a control shave with the soap I stopped using, What the Puck, when I got an itch to try the Williams. I got a much slicker lather with the WTP soap. Post shave feeling is smooth and slick with WTP, with Williams it was not slick at all, almost tacky. So the Williams got demoted to shower duty. Life's too short to use sub standard soaps. Back to the What the Puck barber scent. Kind of reminds me of the Aqua Velva scent.

Sheer, unadulterated stupidity?

Such a shame, such a shame.....

I have no idea if the timing lines up but I wonder if their acquisition by P&G was a big driver behind it. Standard-issue "Reformulate (hoping) to get the same performance but at a significant reduced manufacturing cost".
