What's new

My first REAL straight razors

I've mentioned before on here that I've used a shavette several times, and have recently bought a Spilo Magic Razor, which is pretty decent for the price. I've been itching for trying out a REAL straight razor for a while though, and I've finally got the opportunity. Today I got a Keene Cutlery Co 6/8 razor (half hollow maybe?) that was honed up to about 12k and then on CrOx. I both treetopped some some arm hairs pulled off an HHT4 on it. I also got a balsa strop with leather and one with CrOx, so that it should stay in good shape for a good long time, if I'm careful enough stropping. I also bought a Krusius Brothers KB Extra No 25, extra hollow grind, 5/8 from Krona Kruiser. It's not honed, but it is very nice, and sometime soon, I have a friend who I've heard puts on a very nice coticule edge who offered to hone it for me.

Haven't had the chance to shave today yet, but I'm planning on doing a night shave with the Keene Cutlery tonight. I'll be starting a journal on here after that to keep everybody updated on my progress.

Anyway, here's the new toys:

And here's the Keene Cutlery 6/8 that's already honed.

Thanks to all of the guys on the Straight Razor forums who have got me interested in them in the first place.

Good solid razors. Watch that point on the Keene Cutlery!!

Yep! It's like a combination of a square and Spanish point and it's definitely sharp. I considered muting it, but that would take too much fun out of it!

Here's the one I'm currently using again, and I worked on getting much better pictures this time. The blade wasn't quite keen enough to deal with my wiry whiskers (probably my fault) but I touched it up and it's freakishly sharp now. Seriously, my finger found out. Hobby Lobby 12000 grit Wet Dry Sandpaper and CrOx can put a mean edge on a straight. Not to mention I'm having a lot of fun pushing the edge as sharp as it will go and learning some basic honing/stropping skills.
