What's new

My first experience with Feathers - near BBS!

I recently was in Austin and upgraded my kit from Enchanté (including Feather blades), and got myself a lesson in shaving from Charles Roberts himself! More detail on that in my previous post

My Introduction to Method Shaving from the man himself!

Having used these blades for a week, I can confidently state that while the nervousness one should feel before using one of these blades is overrated, the blades themselves are not - they are by far the best blades I have used out of the dozen or so blades I have tried. Yes, they are definitely super sharp, but if your technique is good and you have been shaving with a DE at least a couple of months I would recommend you fearlessly try one.

While the fact that I also changed my shaving style and kit as detailed in the other post are definitely contributing to the consistent near BBS shaves, the blades themselves have been the single largest improvement - I tried it once with my old brush / cream combo and the result is still much better than what I used to get.

My Tools - Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush, Merkur HD Open Comb, Feather Blade, Hydrolast Shave Cube, Geo F Trumper Sandalwood Shave Cream, Musgo Real No.3 AS

thanks for the review

i can't wait to try these blades - i *really* have to restrain myself from buying 200 - i want these to be the blades i end up with :)

buuuuuuuuut i am going to wait a couple of months to improve my technique before i try them

I *really* had to restrain myself to buying only 50 this time :) but will probably buy 200 the next time!

Some love them, some hate them. There comes a point in all of our shaving careers where we need to choose. You apparently are in the first category.

After having gone through a sampler pack and getting only good results from Feathers, I assumed they were the blade for me and was pretty sure I was gonna get several hundred for the shavepocolypse.

However, after trying both Kai and Blue Birds and returning to Feathers, I found the them to still be the sharpest, but not the smoothest. I got several knicks and a bit of irritation. The Blue Birds are especially smooth, although not as sharp. The Kai's are equally sharp, but smoother than Feathers.

So, I guess preferences can change.

What was once my no. 1 blade is now my no. 3.

Go figure.
