My first DE razor! With Pics

Well finally after waiting a few days I got my first DE razor from the bay. It is a 1956 SS that is missing the end caps. Didn't know that at the time of purchase, learned that from someone on this site. Sorry for the poor camera quality did not realize until after pics were taken. I do not use the wash basin at all just a nice decoration in my dinning room. any advice on how to take hard water spots of the razor? Tomorrow will be my first shave with it or any DE for that matter! - Thanks John

Welcome to the club! Wonderful, smooth razor. Give it a Scrubbing Bubbles bath (foam action) and use old toothbrush to clean. This will clean and disinfect the razor. You can take the extra step and use Maas or Blue Magic polish, that should take care of the water spots and give it some shine. Make sure to clean your razor again after you polish to avoid chemical contact on your face. Nice basin too.

Thank you for the kind words. Glad to hear its a smooth razor, think it will be perfect for me. I don't have Scrubbing Bubbles or any of the other products. Guess that will have to wait till after my vacation. I already cleaned it really well and disinfected it.

You'll eventually want to have those products I mentioned though. You WILL get more razors. Don't know if it's a good or bad thing.......
Enjoy!

Funny you should say that. I put a bid on 2 1954 SS's just for fun the same day and won them both. lol.

Thank you for your service and great acquisition. That's a solid razor you have there.

You might want to make some room. Things have a way of multiplying . . . exponentially around here!

Enjoy your shaves.

What he said!

The flare tip gives a great shave lots of feedback with a nice finish - Now you own a vintage Gillette do you feel the need to own another?

I started with a flare Super Speed back in the day and it's a great razor to start with. I want a wash basin like that to use for shaving. Then SWMBO won't yell at me for taking too long to shave.

I used it for the first time today. Not to bad, had some troubles around the Adams apple area and my chin. Used a styptic pencil for the first time as well and holy crap did that burn!
