What's new

My first dance with MWF - Best shave ever.and a few thoughts.

Used MWF for the first time last night. I bought the puck two weeks ago, but had delayed using it. I was a bit terrified of this soap, since I had read on here how hard it was to lather, particularly since we have extremely hard water. I had no problem whipping up a good lather, and I think this might have been due in part to the fact that my Semogue 830 had only been used three times prior and is still a stiff scritchy beast. It tore through that puck and loaded up quicker than an overstressed working father loads up during happy hour.:001_cool:

I know I am a total newbie, but maybe I can share what exactly I did to successfully lather MWF for those who are experiencing trouble:

  1. Drizzle a tiny bit of hot water atop the puck, swirl around, and drain
  2. Run the brush under the tap, then shake out until just barely damp
  3. Load the brush vigorously
  4. Swirl some hot water in mug, then discard
  5. Begin mug lathering with fast and violent swirling
  6. Add a little drizzle of hot water
  7. Continue violent lathering
  8. Add a little drizzle of hot water
  9. Lather for another thirty seconds

I did notice that while I got a great lather, there was not as much of it as I usually get from my soaps. I had enough for two passes, but had to kinda squoosh it out for the third pass. Maybe I should have loaded a bit longer. I will say that I got the best shave of my life last night with this soap. Not crazy about the scent though…it smells a bit old-ladyish to my nose (do you guys agree?). I’m sure it will grow on me however, and it is definitely going to be a permanent part of my rotation. Now I see what the fuss was about. I have successfully tamed the Fat!

Tex,
MWF is a great soap and they way it leaves your face feeling afterwards is second to none although,I also like my Proraso cream too.

I like the scent but if you do not you might want to try Mike's Soaps. They come in several different scents and also contain lanolin like the fat.

Waiting for my Mike's samples to arrive any day now.

OK, I've got a sample of MWF at home, had it for about 2 weeks now, and haven't tried it (got sidetracked by this awesomeness that goes by the name of Tabac). Tomorrow will be MWF day, you've convinced me to try it. :)

Here's a tip. Instead of just swirling the hot water on the puck, try leaving it sitting on the puck for a minute or two while your brush soaks and you do your pre-shave ritual (you have one, right? :001_unsur). This allows the soap to get a bit softer and lets the brush gather more fatty goodnes!

Enjoy!
