My first couple DE shaves

Thanks again to heirkb for hooking me up with a Gillette slim twist and a super speed, also a sampling of blades (gillette's and feathers).

So I loaded the slim twist up with a gillette 7'oclock and went to work. I choose the slim because it looked less aggressive based on the blade gap. Anyway things went nice, not BBS but I didn't cut myself and I was really happy with the results. I only shave my neck and keep a short beard so it was kind of tricky esp right above the Adams apple.

The next day I decided to bite off a little more then I could chew, I thew a feather into the super speed (warning to other newbies this seems to be a deadly combo) and proceeded to beat my neck up quite a bit. I think I rushed through the shave and I also know I added a little pressure where I shouldnt have.

I'm back to the slim twist and things are going good, I'm still having trouble between the chin and Adams apple, any tips? my beard kinda goes like this.

Thanks for the help B&B!

My beard is similar actually. If the point of the arrow is the root of the hair that is. If not, my hair is the opposite. That's a tricky area, so I'd just say, don't apply pressure and take light short strokes. I know you've already heard that, but I don't have any more tips than that since it's still hard for me to shave that area BBS
Someone else may be able to help here

Sounds good...

I'm unsure if this can help as I don't have that kind of problem with the chin/adams apple.

Try to point your chin up and stretch the skin to create a flatter area. You should get closer that way.

Cool thanks for the the help. Yah the > indicate the root so I guess the hair goes in the opposite direction, now that I think about it its a confusing diagram.

Ive been doing longer strokes which may be my problem.

Instead of shaving right over the point of your adams apple, try sliding the skin to the left and right of the point when you run the razor over that area. That way you are using a larger and flatter surface. This works for me.

IMO...stay away from the feathers until you are very comfortable with your technique. A side note...I always feel a longer handle gives you better control...hence the twist over the SS. i have never noticed any difference in aggressiveness between a twist and an ss...
