What's new

My 2 Band Simpson has THREE BANDS!

Ohh Lord! I am POed! I have waited a damn year to have the extra funds to pick up one of these. I get it and the brush looks great. But, I didn't spend 170 bucks on a Simpson T3 Two Band to look at Three Bands of hair! Is this what I get for waiting or are they just feeding us garbage after we pay out the nose?

The damn thing is going back and I have NEVER sent ANYTHING shaving related back. Looks like Ill never have a Simpson.

I bought a 2-band ch2 about a month and half ago and you can see some of the third band poking out of the bottom and the tips arent as white as I thought they would be. I can tell mine is a 2-band though, because the top and middle bands are very broad and the middle is also very dark, almost black. the brush has great backbone and the tips are very soft. I was disapointed that I could see the bottom band, but the brush performs so well for me that I still love it anyway. However, I can certainly understand when you pay $200+ for a brush, you want what you want.

If it makes you feel any better, most two-bands are technically three-bands.

Given the accepted definition, the bottom white band should be pretty much 100% within the handle, so that the bottom band cannot be seen by the naked eye. I agree with you completely, however.

Jonny that's a beautiful 2-band!

You can see some white at the base of most of them.

Then they're not 2-bands. I've seen quite a few guys post pics of their "2-band" brushes when 3-bands are clearly visible, throughout the entire circumference of the brush. I never paid it much thought, other than a cursory, "He considers that a 2-band?"

I agree with the OP -- if I intentionally went out of my way to procure a 2-band, and it arrived as a 3-band, I'd return it as well.

Edit: The pic the OP posted is (what I would consider) clearly a 3-band brush.

I have NEVER seen a Rooney's Finest with a 3rd band poking out! Yes, I am totally calling Simfix out! :thumbdown

I guess I don't see the problem. Looks like a great brush to me. But as with most everything here, YMMV. If you really aren't happy, send it back.

Look at the width and darkness of the black band, and compare to other badgers. Look at the width of the 'whitecap', and the contrast between the bands. You may not like that you can see the bottom band near the handle, and I agree that's a personal aesthetics thing, but that brush is what is referred to as '2-band' badger hair.

But, as metioned, if you're not happy return it. I hope the vendor will offer it at a discount :001_cool:

It looks like a 2 band to me and frankly I own T3 in both 2 bands and Super and I prefer the Super. Used it this morning with Tabac and it is a lather dream, Denser than the 2 bands too.

JonnyAngel, can you post a picture of a "real" 2 bands brush? (by your standards). I am curious to see the difference.

I've seen plenty of Rooney finest 1/2s that have a third band sticking out. Two-band hair isn't two-band "all the way down."

Yes it is... otherwise it fails at being a 2-band.

(Here "all the way down" means "all the way until you get into the handle" -- which at that point can resume being a 3-band (which most of them are anyway))

It's all aesthetics.

Would someone be so kind as to explain to me the 1-2-3-what-ever-number-band concept or post a thread where it was discussed and explained.

Edit: I mean as performance.

I can see your point, but brushes with a longer loft, like a 1/2, often show this "3-band" characteristic. I'd imagine the performance would be the same.

I don't think he's (OP) ever even used the brush -- we're not talking performance. We're talking aesthetics only... right?

It seems to be a bad luck of a draw. Perhaps contact the vendor or a different vendor from the boards and see they can accommodate your needs. The vendors from here that I have dealt with have been reasonable with this sort of thing.

This seems like something that can be remedied.

Right. I'm just saying Vulfix isn't the only company guilty of this crime. Not to mention Plisson releasing brushes that are actually 3-banded, not just 3-band at the base.
