my 1949 Gillette Super Speed bit me! (warning, gross cut)

this must be one of the most painful shaving cuts i've ever had.

the damn butterfly doors were stuck. so i grabbed it by the head gently and twisted to get some leverage. it got unstuck pretty fast and my red pack personna absolutely demolished my hand.

i can't get the thought of the feeling of the razorblade just ripping through my skin out of my head. it's haunting me, along with the severe pain! can't go to the doctor since i have no insurance so i just have to suck it up.

the cut on the index finger is really deep. the thumb one is still pretty deep but mostly wide and very open. both hurt like all hell!

Being a knife nut I've had my fair share of cuts (and at 13!). Pressure lots of it, and if you can see both sides of the cut skin (a clean cut, a hair splitting knife should do this or a good razor) Super glue can be used instead of stitches, but use the expensive kind, and first check your local pharmacy to see if they have "Pharmaceutical grade superglue". If they don't krazy glue works just as well, and is nearly as sterile. YOu'll get all your mobility back within a few hours, and the pain will be diminished greatly. If it's a shallow cut, but a wide one lots of pressure is basically all you can do. A little neosporin with gauze does wonders also.

Did the same thing with my tech. The doc just put some superglue type stuff and triple antibiotic ointment on it. Remember to not bend it or it will open right up it hurts but you will get a nice scar.

Wow, those look extremely painful. And no insurance. Sucks. Have you thought about putting a couple of stitches in yourself. I've seen it done at polo matches and it doesn't seem that hard. I'm sure you could google it. Caveat, I am a doctor but not a licensed physician.

I know the feeling, nearly lost the tip of my finger to a stadium seat. Dad tossed it about 30 feet to me while I was in the tree stand. I caught the stadium seat for about, "F&$K".

Lots of peroxide, neosporin, and pressure, I still have the tip of my finger. It does hurt like hell...but it'll pass and you can have a sweet sweet new set of scars. :w00t:

A note on the peroxide, if it's to deep it can dry out the skin on the inside of the cut. It's much better for surface cuts (if it hits near bone don't go near it with peroxide). It's extremely bad for deep cuts.

I've had my share of cuts. When I was a young man I was a meat cutter for Safeway Stores. I had a few cuts that were all my fault. Sometimes a painfull learning curve. I bet you don't do that again.

Shaving your hands without a good prep? tsk tsk.

I hope you got it closed up good. The better you get it closed up and keep it so, the better and quicker it will heal. Gotta love neosporin, too. That stuff is wonderful.

I did somethiing similar with my grandpa's NEW razor. I gripped the head and slipped while trying to get the old blade out...I sliced an inch of skin off the side of my thumb. I did it over a year ago and still have a scar, and not much feeling there either.

+1 to this. Seems like most emergency rooms have started using the sterile super-glue in place of stitches. I've had a few deep cuts fixed up this way that resulted in only barely visible scars.

Ouch that looks bad.

So is it the case that in the US you can't get emergency medical help if you have no insurance?

<The Doctor is IN>

Not the case. In an actual emergency they can't turn you away. However, there are emergencies, and then again there are emergencies. A cut of this nature isn't life threatening, in my humble medical opinion. If the OP had slashed open his carotid artery instead, and somehow made it to the hospital emergency room before bleeding to death, they would certainly try to patch him up well enough to toss back out onto the street. And send him the bill the next day.

Five cents, please.

ouch

last week my merkur's slipped in my hands and the feather's not forgiven my little left finger... first injury in my DE historic

I know the feeling. Something similar happened to me earlier this year. I was victim to a lowly X-acto knife. This one needed a bit of surgery to reattach and repair some nerves, tendons, and arteries. I'd rather not explain exactly how I received the cut though (I want to keep some of my dignity:wink2:).

Warning: Not for the squeamish.

Not so bad. Clean it, bandage it and wait.
