Went hiking yesterday. This has been a great mushroom year.
Some king Boletes pictures from yesterday.
I wasn't collecting so I ate one on the spot and took some pictures.

I may give some boletes a shot. you seem to enjoy them (so does everything else in the woods, they're partially eaten all over the place) but I kinda avoid them because I hear about them being so varied. maybe I don't have much to worry about

In NY, where I am, none of the boletes with white pores are poisonous.
There's one that tastes bad, but that's how I identify it.

I avoid boletes with yellow, black, or red pores,
because I'm too old to learn the rules for those,
and I'm happy enough with the others.

I didn't expect this beautiful flush of honey mushrooms that took me by surprise. and yes, they will be what's for dinner

been very busy but did manage to snap these cool, tiny little red guys. I'm supposing a fairy cap of some sort

been getting some good rain, so I'm sure there's foraging to come. in fact noticed chicken of of the woods starting

ha, I've posted these guys before. they are more numerous every time. it's a flush of fairy caps that come a day or two after every rain. seemingly thousands lol

Agaricus arvensis

Horse mushrooms are out now.

Raw, this has a slight smell of black licorice.
Cooked, it's just like a Portobello.
There's an inedible mushroom that looks just like it
that grows in the same places in early Summer.

This was from a fairy ring of Horse mushrooms growing around a spruce.
I've seen them around birch and I've seen them grow alone in the middle of a lawn,
but they're almost always in a lawn.
The size is part of what makes it special.
Shown on an 11" x 8" piece of paper for scale .

Black trumpets are still out.
It's still raining a few times a week.

and Chanterelles are still out.

The fuzzy spikey things in the picture below, are beech nuts.

I've unfortunately had little luck the last few outings despite it being pretty damp here (and getting damper in about thirty minutes). I haven't seen anymore Amanita jacksonii, in fact, I don't really see any Amanitas at all outside of bisporigera, which is deadly. hopefully some upcoming rains will encourage a few more flushes before the weather begins to cool
