Musgo Vs Proraso...

Hi,

After reading much praise for both Musgo and Proraso, Im contemplating adding some to my order soon...

Which do people prefer and what are the main differences as far as scent and lather between the two?

Any comments greatly appreciated

Many Thanks :001_smile

...mmm

2 very different creams there

i'd expect someone to want a comparrison with similar creams

i.e. Proraso/Bigelow/Ingrams etc

Musgo is an old school classic cream bordering on high end luxury creams on a par with the 3T's etc

Proraso is more an everyday work horse blue collar cream

so for the purpose of this question (and yes, this isn't the answer you wanted)

get both

i won't be the last person to say this either

What he said. You have to get both. They are so different from one another and yet each so wonderful in their own right it would be blasphemy to try only one.

I bought 1 tube each of Speick, Proraso and Musgo and find myself reaching for the Musgo more oftern than the other 2. IMHO, Musgo provides better cushioning and I really like the moisturizing properties of lanolin. The scent is also very nice. Proraso has a great cooling sensation but does not provide as much cushioning as Musgo. What Hando said about Musgo bordering on luxury vs Proraso blue collar is spot on!

Oy.

I haven't tried Musgo yet, but Proraso is probably my favorite cream I own (and I have a LOT of creams and soaps). I use it paired up with the splash and balm, and it's unbelievable.

I'd also suggest looking at Speick- VERY healing cream.

I'm not sure how to describe the scent of Musgo Real, though others have called it fresh, grassy, and like a barber shop. Proraso smells like Vick Vaporub. I find Musgo Real to be more lubricating and more moisturizing. Proraso is more cooling because of the menthol, though Musgo does have a small amount too. They both go for about $10, but Proraso tubes are 150ml, where as Musgo Real is only 100ml. I think Musgo is a much better cream (my favorite cream in fact) but I recommend both.

I have both Musgo and Proraso. With my face and shaves, I've found my Proraso to be better on slickness and I tend to get better shaves with it. I LOVE the musgo cream scent but for me, Proraso is the better cream.

They're both fine products, and inexpensive enough that both can be had for less than Trumpers or T&H. Proraso has some eucalyptus (though I don't find it to smell anything like Vicks) that gives a cooling sensation. Musgo has a patchouli/vetyver scent that is quite subtle.

Wow thanks for the replies guys...

I have only been wet shaving for around six months now and started off with a Merkur HD, MenU brush, cream, face wash and moisturiser and thought that would be enough. I laughed (in a good way) how much people on this forum were into their shaving and now I too have felt the bug bite as I want to try more and more products :))

Looks like I will just have to get both then!

Musgo is a better latherer and skin care product. Proraso receives much hype. When starting my DE career, I recall a thread from a barber mentioning that Proraso is drying on the skin.

IMO Proraso is better for super lathering. Experiment. After using both creams consider upgrading to creams slightly more expensive that provides closer shaves and improved skin care.

Proraso is great in the dead of summer because of its cooling sensation. But for the rest of the year, the scent, the slickness and the moisturizing of Musgo win out. But they are so cheap that you just need to get both.

Wow
I couldn't pick between the two. THey are both in my top 3 favorite creams.
Proraso - menthol goodness, smells like traditional shave soap
Mugo - Just great of a shave as prorarso but no menthol (as far as I can tell) and smells more manly, more of a cologne scent.

Cannot go wrong with either.

I use Proraso Pre/Post right before and after I shave. And I wear Musgo balm on my face and shaved noggin on the days I don't shave for general relief.

Proraso has a very strong smell of menthol while Musgo smells a bit like Brut.

Nice!

That's the great thing about shaving stuff...it's cheap enough so you can afford not to choose one thing over another. Now if you're talking about getting an Aston Martin or a Porsche well, that's requires a bit more thinking. :001_tongu
