Modified Progress

I was wondering if anyone out there has taken the liberty of customizing a Progress to get rid of the cheap plastic knob at the bottom. I sure would like to try a progress safety razor, but I just can't STAND how unbelievably cheap that end cap makes an otherwise awesome looking razor appear. It might sound lame that I would even care, but a "Chopped and Screwed Progress" with maybe a marble cap, stainless, ceramic...heck anything I imagine would be better then looking at that piece of plastic, would be a vast improvement. Thoughts, suggestions, experiences...

There are several options for upgrade knobs and enhancements ... and you're right, a better knob makes a HUGE difference in improving the ergonomics of this razor.

Check out the Progress Users Social Group for more information about the different knobs and handle upgrades.

"Chopped and screwed" may be a reference that falls through the cracks with some here. I believe Bob's Razor Works customizes Progress razors, but I'm not 100% sure.

In addition to Bob, user "Mer" also makes custom progress knobs, with the resulting razor called the "Mergress".

If you want a more budget minded alternative, Bullgoose Shaving is selling some custom Progress knobs on clearance:

I just bought a Long Handle Ikon knob from Phil at Bullgoose on Friday. He is a great vendor to do business with.

Here it the one I purchased:

I bought my Progress with the original intent of eventually sending it to Mer for the upgrade... But I just can't bring myself to part with it yet!

Get the LONG HANDLE Progress which has the control and balance to start with, rather than put some horrid ornament on the end!!!(saw a pic of a single dice(die?)on the end of one and nearly wept thru my Williams soap lather!):nono:

Get the less expensive short handle version, I can then make the handle as long as you want.

Nice razors...definitely something to look into...on a side note...is that a goban in the background or are you just happy to see me.

No, not a Goban board, that just my vintage paper cutter which makes a convenient place to take quick pictures when I don't want to set up my light box.

Wow, that last razor looks awesome. Do you sell just the modification or the entire razor? And what is the particular price of that gorgeous double edge?

Owner must provide the donor razor.
PM me for more information as I'm not supposed to conduct business outside the vendor section.
Yes, proper lighting and a tripod makes for much better pictures, something many eBay sellers should learn.

Which ever modification you choose for the knob, make sure you do it. It makes all the difference as far as the balance of the razor.

Or you can simply buy the LONG HANDLE to start with instead of converting the shortie to a gillette butt style wannabe!:biggrin1:
