What's new

mmm... wedge!

A week or so ago there was a 4/8 Bowdin's wedge on the bay that no one (and I mean no one) bid on. I got it for around 9 bucks shipped . I was impatient and couldn't wait to clean it before I honed it, so I honed it ant went for the shave. Yesterday was my first shave with it and I thought I must have done a bad job honing because the shave was so bad I had to switch back to my half hollow mid way through. I didn't even get a good shave with the half hollow. As it turns out I had way too much extra glycerin in my lather.

Today's shave I started with the half hollow, and with all the resistance I was encountering (I had about 3 days worth of beard to shave off yesterday did almost NOTHING) I started to wonder what was going wrong. It was at that point I remembered that I usually use my 1/4 hollow Wapi when I have a ton of beard to remove, but the Wapi wasn't in the bathroom. I went for the wedge and OMGOSH. The thing is a silent killer. In it's 4/8 size, the thing was WHIPPING around my face and dominated all, even my upper lip. The only knock I have on it is I find it uncomfortable for fine detail work (I'm not sure how to describe it but its either the small size or the wedge nature or a combination that makes it less than idea for me on the finish pass). Any way you put it though, it's staying in my little collection and you can take it out of my cold dead hands .

Do like the smaller blades! I have a french 4/8s wedge, and the same blade in a 5/8s.

I like using wedges, it's good fun, silent killers indeed.

Variety is the spice of life!

Smaller blades are easier to maneuvre. I like them better. Although 7/8"s are fun to shave with every once in a while, so I keep some around.
