Mike's natural vs mystic waters

Last week I had received my order of mike's unscented shaving soap. I absolutely love this soap and, started using this soap exclusively and haven't used my other creams or soaps . I have read good things about mystic waters, and am thinking about ordering it. Before I do though I wanted to know if anyone can comment about mystic waters moisturizing properties compared to mike's. If mystic waters soap has less moisturizing properties than mike's I don't want to buy it simply because I have really dry and sensitive skin. If someone here has both please comment.

Do yourself a favor and order Mystic Waters Soap(s) you will not be disappointed and your face will be thankful too. MW has excellent ingredients and moisturizing properties.

I recommend that you try Mystic Waters. I can't speak to Mike's yet, but MW is excellent stuff. It will not dry out your skin. Like you, I have very dry and very sensitive skin. MW is the only soap I've found so far that I can shave with. I recommend that you read this thread. I posted some of my experience near the end.

Because of my dry sensitive skin I've had some emails back and forth with Michelle (Michelle IS Mystic Waters). I specifically inquired about why she doesn't use any Coconut oil because somewhere on her website she mentioned that she doesn't use it. She responded - "I cater to a niche market inside a niche market! ;-) It was a challenge to make a good shaving soap without using coconut but I wanted to make the gentlest soap that I could. Originally, I had wheat protein in there as a skin protectant, but I took that out because of possible gluten allergy issues." So, she is making so that caters to people with skin like ours.

Interestingly I was first tipped off to the problems of coconut oil on Mike's site - "Coconut Oil - Solid below temperatures of 76 degrees, this oil is one of the few that offers significant cleansing properties due to its high lauric acid content. However, as a result, too much can be drying, since it has the potential to strip the skin of its natural oils. But, used judiciously, it is very skin-friendly. It also imparts hardness and a nice fluffy lather to each bar." The fact that Mike's is working for you must mean that there isn't too much coconut oil in his soap.

I'd recommend getting some MW samples, because the Lilies of the Valley and the un-scented versions have been GREAT for me. The Rosalime seems to be fine too, but I get an oh-so-faint-tingle from that one. The Wild Lavendar seems stronger, but I need to try it on my skin again. Michelle wrote the following to me about fragrance, "There are some essential oils that are more irritating than others: cinnamon, black pepper, clove, citrus, even lavender can set some people off so you just have to get samples and try stuff out before buying." I gotta say though, the scent of the Lilies of the Valley is really wonderful. I really love it.

I've read of people having difficulty lathering MW, but if you follow the directions and videos on the MW site, you'll be fine. If I can lather it, anyone can.

Let us know how you make out!

Josh

+1 Mystic Water and Mike's post-shave properties are identical! Best two soaps that i have tried!

I would go with Mike's for sure. His soaps are great when it comes to moisturizing properties. Also it has provided the slickest shave for me. Look up the list of ingredients used on Mike's website and compare them to whoever you would like to purchase from. Any decent soap artisan will list their ingredients on their website. I have used MW in the past and have found it to be sub-par but YMMV. Closest thing to Mike's I have found is Queen Charlotte Soaps in NC. Matt's (QCS) products and customer service are amazing (Just like Mike's). I feel QCS might even have a slight advantage in the moisturizing department. Mike's is slicker and provide a closer shave while QCS are moisturizing and have better scents.

Good Luck :biggrin1:

I have Mystic Waters as well as Mike's and QCS. MW is a little harder to dial-in for lathering but is not really difficult. Once you've got it figured out, it is a great soap. All three of the artisan soap makers are producing exquisite products. I find it very hard to pick just one - try them all. You should see my soap drawer, it's full.

The only choice, is to buy everything. The Mystic Water Sensitive Skin formula is a great choice for your skin type, but the scented ones may work just as well.

I've been using Mike's, QCS, and MW more than any others lately. They really are all top notch performers. I don't know that you can make a bad choice from these three soap makers.

For me both Mikes and MW have a permanent spot in my rotation. Both are top quality soaps. I give Mikes a slight edge on moisturizing, but not by much. MWF, MW, and Mikes are the most moisturizing soaps I have found. YMMV.

I recently got Mystic Water Lily of the Valley; incredible soap! Plenty of lather, great scent, and awesome post shave moisturizing!

The scent is floral and sweet, not usually my thing, but it was part of a package deal.

I will be placing an order for more!

On to Mikes

Great soap as well! Lathers have been top notch, very good properties.

The barber shop and orange, cedarwood, black pepper are great scents!

You will not be disappointed by MW

I am trying QCS for first time today, we will see how they stack up!

+1. I love the MW Liles of the Valley.

Has any one tried the MW Sensative Skin variety? I've used it the last three days, and I think the post shave moisture & skin softness is even better than the standard formula. Really good stuff. I definitely recommend getting a sample at the minimum. It is unscented.
