Mexican Coca Cola...yeah, it's better

Found some today at a Mexican shop that just opened up. Had heard it's superior to our domestic "old" Coke, which I've detested since it came out. MexCoke is better, all right. It's still not quite what I remember from childhood. Only a little of the old, throat-burning bite goodness is there, but American Coke totally lacks it so MexCoke is better on that account alone. But it tastes better and has no aftertaste. If you can get some, try it! Anyone else had it?

What you'll find is that it is made with cane sugar, not corn syrup, and therefore...yeah...a million times better. Costco used to carry it in cases for $18 per, which was the ruleyest of the ruley, but then Cosco and Coca Cola had a dispute, and now you won't find a single Coke product available in their "stores", which is a shame.

If you like the Mexicoke, I also suggest Boylan's Cane Cola...guzzle guzzle!

I see Boylan's root beer around here from time to time (prefer Jones)...will keep my eye out for their cola, thx!

We used to be able to get it only at Mexican-oriented grocery stores, but now it's almost everywhere, including every 7-11 I've been in do far in the Dallas area.

Good stuff. :thumbup1:

I found some at my local ACME when I went shopping this week ... $1.79 for a 500ml size. I bought a bottle to see if its all its cracked up to be. I appreciate the fact that its packaged in a glass bottle with the traditional hoop-skirt design.

I haven't tried it yet, its still in the fridge. Maybe I'll crack it open tonight and give it a go.

I've never tried a Coke made with cane sugar instead of HFCS, but I've tried the Pepsi.

Didn't like it at all. It tasted like diet to me (it wasn't actually diet, of that I am sure.) I'm thinking the Coke would be the same way.

I'm 41, so I barely remember what true old Coke tasted like. The MexCoke is close but it still is missing some of that wicked nice bite it had before the early '80s...or am I just imagining it? You older timers will recall what I'm talking about (unless, again, I only think it had a lot more bite in the old days). Thx,

Yeah, it's way better IMHO. I think the cane sugar formula gives a crisper mouth feel versus the HFCS version, which Coke switched over too in the 1970's. Able to buy it in the Mexican markets in my area, but as someone said Costco used to have it by the case until their little pissing contest with Coca-Cola. Haven't seen it back on the shelf yet.

Highly recommend Gosling's black seal rum, and Mexican coke, add a lime for a fantastic "Cuba Libre"

Yea it is great stuff, A bit pricy but worth it. We just started getting it around here. I also like kosher coke if and when you can find that.

FYI Costco and Coke settled ther problem, and it is back on the shelf now, thou I did not see the mexican coke

Five years ago, I couldn't find it in Austin. Now in Oklahoma City, I can buy single bottles (12 or 20 oz) at the local grocery store's nearby Latino-targeted store or 24-bottle cases at Sam's (!) Definitely better stuff.

It's readily available here in Central Texas. I love the stuff. I love to drink one when I smoke a good maduro cigar.

If you like Mexican soft drinks, you should try the Jaritos, they have it in lots of flavor, it's well know in Mexico since a lot of years.

Yes, it is way better! I love it. It has a more herbal taste in my opinion, and the crispness, lightness, and lack of after taste of the cane sugar is great. I can't stand regular coke... I steer clear of HFCS as much as I can.

By the way, people should know that there are two Mexican Coke varieties available, and one actually does have HFCS. It comes in a bigger bottle (1 liter?) and has a yellow cap. I haven't tried it, but I'll stick with the one with sugar...

Hecho en Mexico Coke is the bestest! But at $1.50 per bottle, I can't afford to drink it all the time though. Someone told me recently there's one store in my neighborhood that carries Pepsi Natural - which is supposed to have real sugar too. Haven't tried it yet.

I had my first and only one a few months ago. It was great. I should go back to the Mexican store where I purchased it and get some more. I did like the whole Pepsi Throwback thing they did.

You know, I have to concur with what Don mentioned. I miss the bite. I've often wondered if it was just because I was young at the time, but my memory of Coke in a glass bottle was that the stuff nearly burned on the way in; particulary that first sip. Man, I'd pay double for a bottle full of that. LOL

The local markets all carry it here, but I have the luxury of having a good friend with CocaCola, so he always keeps me in the loop with who's selling it for the best price. Usually it can be found for about a buck a bottle. A delicious taste that I really enjoy with some Appletons and a twist.
