I saw this odd old Merkur two-piece open-comb razor, with teeth so long and curved they could serve as props in a "Friday the 13th" sequel. See below.
Naturally, a razor that weird and scary, I had to have it.
Naturally, I had to try it out. [I used a Supermax Stainless, for the blade runners out there.]
I'm speechless. BBS right off the bat, not a single nick or strawberry, no learning curve. The long claws hold a lot of lather and make it a snap to re-lather for buffing; you really just rock the razor -- stroke, then tilt the handle closer to the face and push backwards. The curvature seems to strike an excellent balance between blade exposure and face protection. The face extends almost the entire length of the blade, leaving very little "ear" exposed to cut your nose (but also making it slightly more difficult to trim close to the nostrils. But I managed.)
If anyone here can identify it, I'd be grateful. [Obviously it's a Merkur, and the handle is identical to my slants, but model? date of production? There are no markings that help with those questions.] And if you can find one of these puppies, get it. And hold on with both claws.
