Merkur 38C question

Hello,

I know from looking at the vidoes that the Progress for example has to be assembled properly or there can be trouble.

Maybe a stupid question, but is there such an issue with the 38C barberpole? I can't see any markers, just a 1 on the head and 6/9 on the body.

Thanks,

Mark

I use one all the time and never even noticed any numbers on it. I don't think there is a wrong way to assemble it. It's sort of "plug and play" simple.

You can try changing the top bit 180 degrees to get even blade exposure. Mine is pretty balanced so does not matter too much.

It's not the "razor" itself you need to be nervous about...
(It's the hand that is holding it!)

You're right!

That reminds me on the scene in Blazing Saddles with Gene Wilder.

"Look at that", as he holds up his right hand.

"Steady as a rock", admits Bart.

"Yeah, but I shoot with this hand", as he holds up his left one which is, well, not as good.

Great movie, one of my favorites! Have no fear, you'll do fine. Remember that "angle" is all important and my first time I didnt have enough angle and the razor felt like it was dragging across my face. its not as hard as you might be envisioning right now. Thats a great razor too so have faith.

I started shaving last month and my first razor is a Merkur 38C. I chose it for the longer handle and extra weight. So far it has been a great performer!

I have been using Astra Platinum blades and I'm getting a great shave. It seems like a fairly forgiving razor and I have learned a lot. With the extra weight, it's easy to let the razor do the work without having to apply any pressure.

I'm very happy with my Merkur 38C. I hope it works out as well for you too.

That's great news. I'm happy to hear you're getting good shaves with that set-up.

Funny thing is, when I was getting ready for tomorrow I loaded mine up with an Astra Platinum as well!

I am relatively new also, have the 38c and think it a great performing razor. Haven't noticed the numbers myself but will definitely check next time I change blades.

Really enjoy mine - great weight, high quality and capable of delivering a very solid shave. Hope you enjoy yours too!

I have the 38C as standard for a while because I like the weight and design. I haven't noticed anything in the assembly that is a problem. The only thing that I had a problem with and why you see the short handle design is that the long handle can force you to change your angle toward your collar bone. This can cause some irritation on the neck if you don't keep your angle. It is not something that I deal with now, but the bad habits of cartridge shaving and hooking the handle at the bottom of my neck were my biggest mistakes when I started wet shaving.
