Mergress vs. Fatboy

When I first got it I thought the Fatboy was All That. Great, smooth, comfortable shaves. But now that I've been using the Mergress I've found that for me, it's much more comfortable and efficient than the Fatboy*.

What about you guys? Any of you who own both razors care to comment? Any observations would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

*No, I'm not selling the Fatboy. Nice try, tho.

Dude... I'm trying decide this same question - whether to get a minty mint FatBoy or a BullMastiff Progress. Another member PIF'ed me a FatBoy and I really like it. But I've never shaved with a Progress. I do love my 38M though.

I have 2 of each and find the shave similar.
IMO the Fatboy was the pinnacle of DE razor evolution, every razor made since has been a compromise to save money and reduce material cost.
Merkur makes the heads of their razor from plated pot metal because it cheaper and easier to cast then brass.
Unfortunately if the plating get compromised the pot metal will deteriorate.

I've got a stock grade Progress (does that count?) and a Fatboy. For me, the Progress shaves circles around the Fatboy. The Fatboy shaves are good, but I have to work harder to get the same results as the Progress.

Great idea! I just got a Fatboy, but haven't tried it yet.

...and I am liking the looks of that Coon-gress! (or should it be Bob-gress?)

I've had both, but to be fair only one Mergress, which presently resides in merry Olde England .. have only 6 Fat Boys now ..

I found the Mergress slippery in hand, head heavy, fiddly in adjustment, tedious to load compared to a Gillette TTO, and costing 4 to 5 times what a very good Fat Boy or Slim costs. Not sure what a Merkur is going to look like in 40 years, but today my E-1 Fat Boy did just fine as always. But, Your Mileage May Vary

+1 Not impressed with the progress or merkur. I really wanted to like it. For an adjustable razor, I ended up going with the Super Adjustable. The long handle is great, and at 9 is all I need. I get a one pass shave with no irration no lies with practically any blade. The merkur razors are very picky about blades on the other hand.

I think the Mergress beats the Fatboy in terms of performance. I wasn't always of that opinion, but you can count me as a convert.
