Martin de Candre Lather Explosion

I had some difficulty with Martin de Candre when I first began using it. After a few tries, however, I began to get a very nice lather. I have always used the same brush with Martin de Candre: the Simpsons Emperor 3 in 2 Band Super.

I used the same brush today with Martin de Candre and the lather absolutely exploded, bringing this wonderful soap to an entirely new level for me. It was an unbelievably abundant, creamy, protective and stable lather. It was very, very nice. I suppose the brush finally got beyond its break-in period.

I now understand completely Marco's great enthusiasm for this soap.

I intend to use Martin de Candre with a 3 band brush sometime soon. I'm curious to see if I can achieve the same lather explosion with a 3 band brush.

Has anyone found that 2 band supers work better with Martin de Candre?

it works with any brush i have thrown at it. 3 band, 2 band, badger, boar, floppy, dense...they all work with my MdC

Order two jars of soap, which will halve the shipping for each jar!

It will not disappoint you.

This is a very good point. I was all set to order two jars back in the summer and I couldn't pull the trigger for whatever reason (I think I had bought too much other shaving stuff at the time :001_wub: ). As I recall, there was a Father's Day sale going on and it would've been a great deal. I'm kicking myself now for not buying it... but I must've had a good reason at the time.

Respectfully, I don't think the variations in the brushes has much effect on the lather achieved, if the user is practicing his most effective lathering technique. And also, respectfully, Marco is only one of a great many B&B members whose opinions are well-formed and worthy of appreciation. In your case, your own personal opinion is the one that counts.

What a strange post!

Yeah, it was a bit strange, so I edited it. I thought the OP had asked a question about a brush, etc. MdC is a good soap.

I'm not alone, Timothy. Martin de Candre has a lot of fans among new and experienced wet shavers and for very good reasons IMHO. It will lather up easily and beautifully with any brush, regardless of hair type, softness and density. I personally love MdC when matched with my Simpson Chubby 1 Super (3 band).

I love MdC too. Still waiting for the fougere version?

I have not heard anything back from them after our first couple correspondences. I figured I'd ping them on it again sometime after the first of the year. I sent them the link to the support thread where most folks were saying that they'd love to see such a product, but the folks at MdC were pretty clear that it would take them some time

Another fan of MdC here. I tried it with several of my brushes, with identical results: an explosion of thick, creamy lather. I didn't like the scent at first, but it has grown on me since. Now I'm a total convert!
