Mal Box Broken into

Hi,
I purchased Feather non folding from one of the B&B member on BST. He shipped it from Korea and sent me tracking number(there was one digit missing in tracking number, and I was tracking with wrong number so was getting 'info unavailable' status). As it was more than 3 weeks I shoot a PM to seller and asked if he has any update. He checked tracking number and found it was wrong tracking number and provided me with correct tracking number. I checked USPS.com and it was saying 'Notice Left' on 8th Feb and package was delivered on 16th. I went to post office and I had been told that Package was picked up by someone by showing ID proof.
Now , I did not receive the notice on 8th. So looks like someone has broken into my mailbox and picked up my package. Post guy showed me that it was signed and I could make out that it was not me or my wife.
Did this happen to anyone on B&B. I had many packages delivered from BST without problem before. So there are 2 questions,
1. Does this mean that someone has fake ID that has my address and name?
2. Is there anything I can do?

File a report with the postal inspectors office.

It is a federal crime to tamper with or intercept the US mail.

They take this very seriously.

Your mail was stolen from a US Post Office by means of fraud.

Here is what I came up with for a search of your area

https://ribbs.usps.gov/locators/find-is.cfm

The Postal Inspection Service office that serves SEATTLE WA can be contacted at:

POSTAL INSPECTION SERVICE
PO BOX 400
SEATTLE WA 98111-4000

Phone : (877) 876-2455

Thanks Turtle, I filed the case. will update this thread how this goes.

Wow, that stinks. I've heard of packages being misdelivered to somebody who kept them, and packages stolen off the porch. But from the Post Office? I hope you get some satisfaction from them.

Are you missing any potentially useful forms of ID? Respectfully, are you so well-known or important in your parts that someone would actually have a fake ID of you made? I smell a rat...I think it was lost or destroyed by the Post Office.

I once had a razor I bought indicated on USPS.com as being delivered. I never received it. No compensation of any sort.

I've had a very few items mis-sorted into other boxes and marked as delivered. Only a very few were not found by looking in adjacent boxes. We've had the same PO box for over 25 years. They know us at the PO by sight and usually have our package picks up at the counter waiting for us before we return from getting the box mail to pick up items that were too large to go into the box.

All post office's have video cameras now. All transactions are time base tracked through the counter computer (item scanned).

The postal inspectors will be able to know to the second when the item was handed over the counter and have a very high quality video of the transaction.

It should be a slam dunk to get the image but finding the perp might take a little longer unless they are doing this at a lot of post offices.

OK .. Here is an update .. I received my package, whoever picked it, dropped it back to post office. Post Master mentioned that there are couple of such incidence in past month as this is Tax return time.. I closed the case with post inspector .

Glad it worked out. I live in Seattle as well. There was a period in my area when someone was randomly driving around stealing the mail. They caught him and notified everyone who had been affected (which included me). We have since (as a neighborhood) purchased a large locked group mailbox and of course have had no further problems.

They do take stolen mail very seriously.

That's good. The less drama with the Feds the better.

Some day I will tell you about my visits by the FBI....
