Maintenance of shaving soap

What is the best way to make it last longer?

Don't use so much. Face lather, and make enough lather for a single pass at a time, don't make a big whopping foamy pile then wind up washing most of it down the sink.

FWIW I don't find the AOS soaps to be very long-lasting. They last longer than glycerine soaps but that isn't saying much. They are pretty soft compared to the English soaps, and I don't believe they are triple-milled but are rather only single-milled (the milling makes the soap harder and helps get rid of that lardy cardboardy smell that all AOS soaps tend to have). The English soaps in the 80g-95g range all seem to last me 10-13 months of daily use, but AOS soaps only last about 4-5 months of daily use.

So safe to say one should load with a damp (not wet) brush.. then lather in a bowl or face lather.. and just wipe the excess lather off the soap container, let air dry, and then cover?
