Macro Lense Recommendations

I have a Canon Rebel XT and am looking for a macro lens, thought I'd get some general recommendations before going to a shop where who knows if they're being honest. I don't have a budget so any recommendation is helpful.

Thanks

Got a Tamron 90mm macro. Got Nikon but it is available in Canon mount. In this price range it is hard to beat.

Seeing as you have the crop sensor, you could also get the Canon EF-S 60mm macro.

I have both the 100 and the 60, and I usually prefer the 60. It's cheaper, lighter, smaller, and still a fast f/2.8 lens. With the crop, it handles like my old 100mm macro on a 35mm film camera.

Kind of depends what you will be photographing. With the 60mm you do need to get a little closer to the subject to fill the frame. When you go to the store, take something that is about the size of what you anticipate photographing the most and ask to see both lenses on a similar camera body (probably the XSi) and take a couple of photos of your prop, see how the weight and distance feel to you.

+1 this is a fantastic macro lens for the buck

The Sigma 150mm macro gets excellent reviews, and it's on my list to get.

That's what i have and it's my best and most beautiful lens. The Sigma 90mm is supposed to be good too, but not quite as nice.

I think Nikon make a good 60mm too, but it depends how close you want to be to your subject, if you've got the 60mm, you'll be right on top of things and may create shadow.

I've never gotten into macro in a serious way--with a real, dedicated macro as opposed to a zoom with pseudo-macro capabilities. I'd love to see some examples that you guys have shot.

My dad bought me the Canon 60mm as a present. It is a fantastic lens, and I'm thrilled with it. It's light enough to hand-hold, which is great.

Those flowers are about 7mm long.

I agree 100%

I love my macro 100mm, but on a cropped sensor, it will be a lot of zoom.
