Mach 3 being discontinued?

I was at my local Wal-Mart yesterday and noticed all the Mach 3 handles were gone, but they still had the replacement carts. But today I went to Target and they had them on clearance for $6.I never tried the Mach 3 so figured I might as well try one while it was cheap.
Does anyone know if Gillette is pulling them,or replacing them?Or maybe they are just going to push the Fusion now?

Costco stopped selling them so far as I know in Los Angeles..now they have lube strips on em and pice went up due to this..my dad was annoyed as he has allergies as I do to plants in this lube strip..so I got him a Gillette Guard and some blades..says it walks all over any Mach3 razor anyways in terms of closeness..dirt cheap as well

I wouldn't be surprised. It seems they're putting more and more Fusion razors on the shelves each month. A bit sad, I remember when I was a loyal Mach 3 user going back to my senior year in high school. I don't miss buying those replacement blades every month, though.

I don't think so, at least not world wide.

Over here it's being promoted with TV commercials again, probably because it is a bit less expensive than the Fusion.

I like the Mach 3. Really. I hope it doesn't get phased out. I use it for touch-up occasionally - especially when I'm in a hurry. Works very well and can be taken on a plane - and I fly a lot so I would miss it. I think people's faces are so different that the Mach 3 'one size fits all' has a lot of enemies. For me, I can use it without burn - it doesn't get as close as the straight, of course, but I don't try to make it work for that.

Just 4 months ago, Gillette launched a surprising push for the Mach 3 in the US with advertising and coupons for a free Mach 3 handle with the purchase of any Gillette disposable. As noted above, usually Gillette starts to withdraw marketing and promotional support for older shaving systems. Either this plan last fall was such a failure, they are switching strategies, or more likely trying something new to push their new idea about it.

I still see them in stores. I know the cool thing around here is to hate everything cartridge, but there are certainly worse options than the M3. I have always found it curious how there seems to be definitive cut off of acceptability at 2 blades. 2 blades = fine. 3 or more blades = trash. Groupthink is entertaining that way.

The Mach 3 is myu 'weekend razor' when I don't feel like doing a thorough job. I really hope it doesn't go out--for me, it's the best three-blade razor out there.

I'm sure as long as they are turning a handsome profit on the Mach 3 (which no doubt they have been for a VERY long time) they will surely keep making them. It would probably only be phased out if sales were lagging or the replacement had a higher profit margin. I'd imagine if the Fusion replaced the Mach 3, they'd introduce something fancier to fill the 'high end' slot the Fusion sits in. I think the Mach 3 will be around for a long time though. (cue the press release from Gillette announcing that Mach 3 has been discontinued!)

What OP is noticing is what I noticed with Trac2's years ago, and what started me down the path of traditional wet-shaving. Now that I am almost exclusively straight-shaver I don't worry about the marketing whims of American shaving corporation executives. :biggrin1:

Now I worry about the shipping policies of European soap corporations :cursing:

Actually, I don't mind the M3 at all, and I still use it almost exclusively when my ship is underway (straight razors are difficult tools to employ when the floor is constantly and unpredictably shifting beneath your feet). I don't exactly "enjoy" shaving with it, but it certainly gets the job done (for me).
