What's new

Macbook Pro

I've got one and it's never been anything but silent and cool. It's only been a week and a half, but I'm not worried.

Just me or does it seem like the mac pros are plagued with "early adopter" issues past couple of generations

Apple is losing its touch in the hardware department imo.

I suppose so. Maybe its just that the mac pros/mbp get the most attention and Apple tries the push the envelope the furthest with them; and therefore has the most issues with them as well.

This is just poor design. Apple doesn't push anything hardware wise. The prefer to use stable tested components.

And to think I start freakin out with my laptop if any of the cores get near 80C.

101 degrees Celsius seems like a testicle melting amount of heat...:mad5:
I read the article. 50c Idle is pretty toasty, but not surprising I guess from the i7. those i7 chips run hot--In a tower with adequate cooling they would probably get no warmer than about 70--80c. clearly a case of inadequate cooling ,as the Fujitsu they compared it with ran a bit cooler.

Looks like Apple may need to rename the laptop as the MeltBook Pro.

And to think I start freakin out with my laptop if any of the cores get near 80C.
I would freak if my desktop ran that hot.

I quit running the temperature gauges on my Mac cook long ago, because it was just plain disturbing. The alternate headline for the story could be "Mac Users Stunned by Sterility"

I am using my Macbook Pro 17" to write this and I have never encountered any heat issues. I was taken back by this report because my PC laptop was much warmer on my lap!

Writing this on my MacBook Pro 15" (the version before the fancy new chassis). It get's a bit warm on my lap sometimes...not awful. I don't think I'd want it any hotter, though. I've had this one for over 2 years now and it still works like new. Haven't gotten the bug to upgrade yet. Seems like getting the first version is never the best idea with them.

My 2008 Macbook is running at 140F right now. I'm listening to music and surfing. Nothing else.

Hope there's nothing to those stories about laptop heat and sterility...

The only time my 2009 Macbook Pro gets really hot is when I rip a DVD with HandBrake. Otherwise, no part ever gets above 120 F (49 C).
