Lucky? First Fatboy

Last week I was lurking around a well known auction site. I came across two razors with a starting bit of $25. One of the razors looked like a Fatboy. By the time I could read the description the time ended with zero bids. The description didn't say much and the pictures weren't great but from what I could tell it was a Fatboy in ok condition. All I could think was, there must be a reason why no one bid on this, or was this auction flying under the RAD's radar? I decided to message the seller and asked if the TTO and the adjustments on the razor worked, if so, could he repost the razors. The next day I received a message saying that both razors work and he re-listed the items. I clicked on the link and noticed that he posted it as buy it now for $20. What the heck, if its crap not a big loss. I received the razors today, score, a F2 Fatboy in great condition. So far I have only soaked it in hot water and soap. What should I use to clean the scum off that won't take the black lettering off? I found the case at a local antique shop with a flair-tip inside. I can't wait to clean this bute up and shave. I finally get to see what all the hype is about!

Here are the pictures from the auction site blown up. The second razor is a star razor made in USA.

Great buy. Just use a toothbrush and claen it with Scrubbing bubbles. You can use Black finger nail polish and dab it on into the grooves of the numbers. Wait 5 minutes and just wipe off the excess with a light abrassive scouring sponge ( the one u clean non stick pans with)

Very nice find!! That Fat Boy should clean up very nicely, but don't discount your SS and the Star - both are probably going to give you better shaves at this point in your journey.

I also wondered about the FB hype and mystique . . . bought one about three months into DE shaving and did not like it one bit! It was heavy and hard to handle; my Super Speed was smoother. Somehow, about a year later (after sitting on the shelf) my Fat Boy decided to behave itself and give me a decent shave and earned its way into my rotation!

You certainly have the beginnings of a nice collection/rotation . . . enjoy!

I have used a super speed for about two weeks and thought it was a perfect razor to learn a good technique with. The Star's head looks similar to a tech so I'm guessing its a smooth razor as well. I just started using a 34C and it is by far my favorite razor. I have a tremor in my hands and the extra weight of the razor feels great compared to vintage Gillettes. I have a feeling I am going to like the Fatboy a lot because the handle is similar size and weight of the 34C.

I've noticed if the seller doesn't know what they are listing, often times fatboys slip by the common bid war and go for $16 to $25. Nice score for sure. They are really a nice razor to use, great feel and heft in the hand.
