Looking for a good cart/disposable for travel

I've been doing a fair amount of business travel lately. If the trip is more than one night I'll usually check my bag and travel with a DE razor. But on one-night trips I usually don't need much luggage and I can get away with just a carry-on. But the TSA frowns on razor blades in carry-ons, so I'm looking for a decent cart or disposable that you can put in your carry-on luggage. The last time I tried this I picked up some cheap Dollar General disposables and had a terrible shave. The razor barely took off the lather, let alone the whiskers. I normally shave with a Futur on 4, so you can probably empathize with my dismay at the quality of the shave.

Any suggestions out there? I've read good things about the Gillette Guard. The single-blade cartridge appeals to me. Anyone try to get one through the TSA in carry-on luggage? Any other suggestions?

I like the Schick Hydro 3, as far as carts go. I haven't used mine in many months, but I have gotten a lot of miles out of the cartridges and they give a pretty good irritation free shave.

I carry a Bumpfighter handle and Gillette Trac II cartridges as a backup when I mail blades ahead, or when the trip is so short that mailing blades does not make sense. I have also used a sensor, but now I prefer the simpler Trac II. The Guard should not be a problem either.

Taking the Injector technically violates the TSA regulations. Without any additional blades, you may get by, but you may get it confiscated eventually.

I have been testing out the Noxzema two blade (like an Atra disposable). It is made in Japan by KAI, and is available at Dollar Tree in a two-pack for $1. It has lasted 6 shaves so far, and has a nice balanced handle with rubberized grip and slim-line head.

Another vote for schick Hydro. The composition in the lubricating strip is so slick and protective that you could get a decent shave even if you have forgotten your travel soap, cream, foam, etc.

+1

You can go to Walmart and get a Bumpfighter handle and Wilkinson Sword Trac II blades pretty cheap...

YMMV applies here as well. I use the GII/Trac II for carry-on travel.

My travel razor is the guard.

I haven't touched a multiblade razor since discovering the virtues of a single blade.

+1 on Schick Hydro 3. Although the Guard sounds good to me. Might have to try that as a travel razor next time I need one.

I've been meaning to try the Guard, but in the interim my travel razor, when necessary, has been the Gillette Sensor.

In my travel kit I also have a few small (about the diameter of a nickel) glass make-up containers (I think I got them from the Clinique lady at Macy's when I asked for a sample of something a while back, before I got into DE shaving). They are useful for carrying just a couple of day's worth of shave cream, rather than hauling a tube around.

More recently, every time I buy a tub of AOS shave cream (my go-to cream), I make it a point to ask the salesperson for some of the AOS sample kits - they contain small amounts each of the pre-shave oil, shave cream, and after shave lotion. I typically buy the cream at Nordstrom's, and so far usually get at least two of the AOS sample kits when I ask. The last time I did this, the saleperson loaded me up with four AOS kits, a sample of some Ralph Lauren cologne, and a sample of Acqui di Parma cologne.

Another vote for the very well built Personna Bump Fighter handle. Cheap, but good, carts can be found at Dollar General, about $1.50 for 6 or the Wilks from Walmart, $3.50 for 10.

In a disposable, I would go with the Gillette Good News or something very similar.

I plan on switching to a Bump Fighter handle with Trac 2 cartridges once my supply of disposables runs out.
