What's new

Looking for a 1970's/old school sideburn thinner that takes double edge razors?

I find myself going nostalgic, having recently switch to a double edge safety razor. I wanted to find an old school sideburn thinner/trimmer. My dad used one to thin his sideburns but it could also likely be used on the hair on the back of your head, I believe.

The tool is very simple, has a handle [6 or so inches long] and a spot to put in a double edge razor blade. Once the razor is on the tool the razor ends up looking like it is between two [double sided] combs which helps it thin the hair.

I think of it as a 1970's [or early 80's] tool but that may be because that is when my dad used it. I also remember seeing it at barber shops, although not recently. The one my dad has was green plastic/rubber.

Unfortunately I have no idea what the exact name is, so searching ebay/google/amazon/etc. has not helped me even given me a correct name or picture ad a starting point, never mind being able to find one to buy.

I would love to buy one, but even a name or a photo would help because then I could check out so local barbershops to see if they have one that they don't even use anyone.

Thanks,
staiano

My Dad had one of them. They took proprietary blades though.

I just got one in a lot of razors a couple weeks ago. Exactly as you described it - molded in light blue plastic and still had a Gillette blue blade in it. It's been sitting on the shelf since I unpacked the box. Let me know if you want a pic.

@Eddieb208, very similar to what I was thinking about. The one I thought about was smaller and only took one blade and not two. Also the teeth were different so I wonder how this one would cut. Seems is it would take off way too much to me.

@DonOhio, I'd love to see a pic...

Thanks for the responses so far.

@DonOhio, that is it exactly.

edit: I would happily buy it off of you if you are not going to use it.

My mom use to rip my hair out with something similar. It was more of a round brown disck that had those teeth. I just remember the feel of hair being ripped out when it was combed
