What's new

Little bastone bites back.

Got a bit cocky and paid the price. My first shave was good, only one nick and irritation free. Second shave however, I went too aggressive and too much pressure. Several nicks and burn the fire department couldn't put out. Learned my lesson, that little beast is a handful if you're not careful.

I like it and enjoyed the first shave. Just know now to use a more forgiving razor when I'm half awake.

i like the bastone but prefer my fatips with heavier handles. i find the head a bit more forgiving but still plenty aggressive, the fatip had a wider angle of use for me as well. i use mine almost everyday now (i have 4 of them now lol)

I prefer the Bastone head and handle over the Fatip. The Fatip crossed into the "just a bit too aggressive for me" realm, while the Bastone kept on the side of the line I like.

see proves ymmv with this stuff lol i far prefer the bastone handle but not the head. though it is finished better than the fatip is

To be fair to it, I did spend more time trying out and matching a blade to the Bastone, since I owned it and wanted to really like it, while the Fatip was a loaner to see what I thought of it. I don't keep a large selection of different blades hanging around here, so when it didn't really work as good as the Bastone with the 3 different blades I have here and tried, I called it tested and done.

I just had my first shave with this razor. I had two tiny nicks... I found that the top plate of the head has a tendency to sit off centered and diagonal, if I pay attention it sits just fine. Did anyone else have this problem? Its not that big of a deal, I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

I have a Robusto which is identical to the Bastone and I have the exact problem as you in fact I have to adjust the blade before tightening the cap.

Something else I learned about this little beast, for me it loves cheaper blades, Fred's discount, Derby, and shark give me a better shave than sharper blades with no nicks or burn. I don't know why, but for my face that seems to be the scenario. Now with my Progress those blades are awful and pull ever whisker out of it's socket. How about the rest of you guys, what have you seen?

Personna blues, all day long in this guy for me. I get great results with those.

I've only tried one blade so far (Wilkinson sword). After that last shave I set it aside for a bit. I may give it a go tonight with a different blade

I use a astra instead of a 7OC black, and only do 2 passes with mine. Nice and slow, and don't rush yourself. I started out loving mine, then not so much, and now I'm starting to appreciated it again. But mostly I just put the handle on my replated otto roth new and get the best of both worlds. :thumbup1:

It's a funny razor. After the first three shaves I had GREAT closeness, but low comfort. So much so, that I put it in the "to be sold" pile.

Picked it up again, next three shaves I was able to work the angle a little better and ended really liking it. Ya gotta go SLOW and careful- but, the reward is as shave as close as any I have experienced. It became a new favorite, but NOT for shaves where I have to go fast.

Little Bastone shows me that I have gotten cocky and sloppy with my technique. The first time I used it I nicked above my lip. I can't remember the last time I nicked myself. It caused me to immediately stop and think about the basics. Once focused and back with the program, I got an outstanding and comfortable shave. Bable Fish says Bastone means cane or stick though I can't remember ever hearing the term while living in Italy. I'll take that to mean stick, as in carrying a big stick. It is a fine razor on the aggressive side of good build quality at least equal to my Merkurs. A well proportioned handsome razor at a bargain price.
