Lathering bowl and face technique

I saw a lather video of someone bowl lathering a hard soap with a boar. I saw how much water he kept in his brush before loading his brush. Then he went to a bowl. I tried this. Lather starts off bubbly and ligh, but quickly turned into tons of rich lather. I finally got the results I should have been looking for. My question is would you guys start with the same amount of water if one was going to face lather? Seems like it would be an awful mess starting off building the lather. Would you shake the water out before loading the brush and then add water? I prefer face lathering, but never get such a rich lather as I did tonight.

I start out making a paste on my face then adding water to the brush to build the lather on my face.

You can dip the tips in water or you can drizzle it over the brush. I do it both ways.

Once I have the lather at the consistency I want I won't rinse between passes unless I feel I need to add more water to the lather.

I face lather with a large Omega boar all the time. I typically load with a dryish brush, wet my face and add water as needed. When I add water, I dribble a bit in the center of my brush and make sure I work it into the lather before I add more. Sometimes it gets messy, but it's rare now that I've got the hang of it.

I have been using this method, but seems the brush never has enough water to produce large amounts of lather, at least compared to when I bowl lather. I guess my question to you is how wet is your boar brush when you are making a paste? All I hear is soak your brush and don't shake any water out just to let it drip. How can you get a paste on the brush with that much water?

I soak the brush while I shower, give it a shake and a small squeeze and then start loading. It is easier to start dryer and add water as you go. I had to make a few test lathers to get it right.
