Lather Drying Out

I am a face latherer and typically use the following soaps and cream (MWF, Mikes, Proraso). When I lather, the first half of my face is a very nice shave, but by the time I get to the other side of the face, my face and lather is starting to dry out and starts to get a bit tacky. At this point, there is no slip or glide. Am I not using enough water? Do I need to load more soap? I do not use any pre-shave oils as I'm afraid of breaking out.

Thanks!

i'd suggest more water and longer "build" time. really work the brush around your face to build ample lather. when I do it I dip the tips of my brush in water at least a few times, especially on the 2nd/3rd passes. more soap wouldn't hurt either

More water and more product is likely the solution. Chances are if you adjust your quantities of each you will correct the problem. You really shouldn't have any drying issues with MWF or Mikes. Occasionally I have some slight drying with Proraso but its usually when i've done something wrong.

+1 on the above, with the addition that I--a slow shaver--often wet the brush tips and re-charge the lather on my face as my shave moves from one part of my face/neck to another.

Right. And how long does it take you to complete one pass?

It takes about one minute per side. That means the other half of my face is dried in about a minute or less.

More water. But here's another suggestion: Lather only half your face at a time.

This might be a good idea to try until I can get more moisture in my lather.

I guess I worry that if I add too much water, the lather will be too bubbly. I'm still pretty new to wet shaving so I guess it takes time to master the lathering. The good news is is that I got pretty comfortable with the shave part pretty fast. Only nicked myself the first two times and never since! :001_cool:
