What's new

Latest project

I picked up a brush from the wild today, and am in the process of reknotting it. It is an everready 200, and has a cool looking green with yellow swirl handle over a rubber setting. The shape is ok, but the colors of the handle is what made me buy another (after deciding not to build any more).

This brush was pretty dirty, and I had to switch out water a couple of times because of the nasty color it turned the water.

I'm really looking forward to finishing this one up. Here are the "post washing" photos:

I've never tried the steaming method yet, but I might in the future, if I buy another handle. :a52: I really had no intention of buying this one, but apparently I haven't overcome my BAD as I believed.

So far, I've used a high speed cutter in a dremel. The cutter is pointed, and allows me to bore a hole straight down into the knot without risk of jumping and scarring the handle. After that, I follow up with a carbide machining bit to remove the rest of the knot. Would you say steaming is easier, or less prone to marring the handle?

BTW, thanks for that link. I don't think I've read that particular one before.

I love the color of that handle, it really is a gorgeous brush. I cannot wait to see the finished product.

What knot are you going to use?

I'm not exactly sure yet. I will either put a TGN finest in it, or a whipped dog silvertip. I need to see what knot size it will take when I get the knot out and everything cleaned up. The handle is definitely cool. I wasn't looking for another handle, but it was just too interesting to walk away from.
