Lapping stone help

I'll be buying a lapping stone very soon. My plan is the Diasharp 325. Is that the way to go? And where is the best place to buy it? Europe would be great, but not a must. I will also order a stoneholder at the same time so nice if the shop offer that aswell.

Thanks in advance!

I bought my dmt duo sharp 1200/325 from ebay a long time ago, I think you can still find them there (they can be very expensive if you're not in the US).

Atoma is better IMO than the dmt.i have both. The atoma doesn't stick to the stone like the dmt can. But its double the money plus I see you are in Europe so that creates some issues we don't have in the states. Good luck in your search.

Double the price doesn't sound too good! The DMT will most likely be double the list price already with postage and customs.

Wow, that is a good deal ^, even by domestic US standards, and the rest of the DMT line there is great for Europe as well. Main question is whether or not 120 microns is overkill. To the OP, Gissy, what do you want to lap? That may help as well.

Thanks a lot! Looks like a good place.

I have some Shapton glass hones and are planning on buying the full progression of them. I also have a cheap syntetic 1000 grit, a cnat and a couple of the welsch slates.

Don't get more GS till you get your DMT, once you know what they're like, you might consider using them for your low grit honing over the GS. I haven't found any stones that compare to them for 220-8000grit (mesh) honing. They're the fastest, easiest, and cleanest/most consistently sized cutting. Cut a little deep, but as long as you get a good quality stone to follow the 8k (something that cuts fast), it matters not.

I'm more inclined to lap natural stones with sandpaper for some reason. Can't speak to the Shaptons, but for cheap synths and repairing edges, an extra-coarse/coarse Duo-sharp might be the ticket. Extra-coarse for lapping 1k and coarse for 4k+.

So I can't lap my 1K with the 325?
