Kyle's Prep - Special Steaming Towels?

In my quest to conquer the ingrown hair, I've been concentrating on both blade angle and shave prep. This weekend with some time, I tried Kyle's prep with the wet, hot towel treatment. It didn't take me long to find this method lead to a very nice, comfortable shave after WTG, WTG, and XTG. It also didn't take SWMBO long to find my drenched towel in the dirty laundry and tell me I can't do that with the house towels anymore. Since I do want to continue, I need to get some new towels.

I used a regular bath towel so I could wrap it around my face and leave it there. I am thinking of heading to Target, but I have found special barber's towels and steaming towels on several websites. Has anyone had any luck with these? Are they just regular towels that are sized to better wrap around a face? Do they really "steam" better? Any suggestions for specific towels?

Thanks for the help.

the thicker the better, basically.

I just use really thick kinda hanky sized facecloths which work a treat, and then hold them up on my face (instead of a full wrap)

Classic Brand Barbershop STEAMING Towel

Any thick 100% Cotton towel will do. You have to get the size that suits you more. I prefer it to be longer on one side in comparison with a square towel so that I can wrap it behind my neck and need just one hand holding it in place while I use the other hand on the mouse to browse B&B for about 3-5 minutes

Thanks for the suggestions and what works for you.

This morning I tried a smaller hand towel and held it there, but it cooled down about halfway through. I had better luck with the bath towel I wrapped around maybe two times, but that's a lot of towel. It stayed nice and warm, though.

Thanks for the link, chjome. I'll have to try one of those out.

Hi,

I use bar-towels; I am not sure if you use these in the States, but they are heavy duty rectangular towels (about 10" x 16") that are used as mats on the bar counter.

They are very absorbent and work really well as a shave towel :001_smile

Have fun !

Best regards
