Knit ties: Who likes them?

It was a cold morning in the Southern California mountains and it was a nice time to pull out the V-necks and knit ties. I love my knit ties (in wool, silk, and cotton) in solid colors. They tame stripped and checkered shirts and provide texture to any ensemble.

Exactly my total of knits as well. I think a black knit is timeless, especially with a navy suit and white shirt. I am luke warm on other colors of knit ties.

You're right about the colors of knit ties. The ones I have are in deep shades (black, deep grey, navy, and the shade of blue mentioned above). Finding the right shirt combo is the trickiest though. During the winter I like to wear my black knit tie with a white shirt and grey peacoat. The tie accentuates the texture of the wool peacoat and ties everything down nicely without having an uptight formality to it.

For sure. That is definitely a great look.

I see some mustard colored knits or burnt orange sometimes, and sort of cringe :nonod:

I have several and enjoy them.

I think any colour can work, as with other "regular" ties, but ... obviously some colours work better in certain circumstances than others. A pastel k-t would look splendid with a cream blazer when worn for a springtime sunday brunch ... not so much when headed to the opera in October.

Wool tartan ties are really nice. I've got a couple of them, they were really "in" last year but they always look great during Fall and Winter.

I thought they were just for hipsters and never gave them a second look. I will reevaluate this, I think.

I hear that. They're trying to ruin 3 piece suits for us, just like they are doing for hats!

Damn hipsters.

I have a few, I prefer narrow ties and skinny knits look good.
I've started wearing them with a tie tack; the pin doesn't damage the fabric the way it does with a silk tie, and since the knits don't have a loop on the back so the tack holds it together neatly.

Knit ties are fantastic. I don't usually wear them with a suit (although you certainly can) but rather for a more casual look with jeans and a blazer. Go for a medium width, not too skinny, and you are good to go!

I've got one knitted tie (actually, my wife knitted it). It's orange and black tiger stripes. I got told off for not taking the dress code seriously last time I wore it....

Never really gone in for them but we don't really get that cold here (only down to -5 Celsius) with hot summers. I would imagine well made ones would look and wear well though.
