Knife Fight: Round 2

I had been doing so well, and then today: disaster.

Using a Dovo Shavette with disposable Dovo razor. I was using a razor I had used a couple of times before. I changed the blade today. Wherever there wasn't shaving cream on my face, there was blood. I have possibly the largest gash I've ever had on my face just beside my left sideburn area. The rest of my face is pocked with various nicks and cuts. I still have a lot of my scruff too as I wasn't able to shave over the cuts.

Right now, I do not want to quit trying. I want to get good enough with the disposable that I can justify getting the real deal. Is it just the new blade that threw me off? I use all AOS oil and cream. (Lavender is amazing.)

Also, are there any products for bleeding and irritation, when events like this happen, so I don't have a face covered in scabs?

honestly i think you'll find that a real straight razor blade is much more forgiving than a shavette. just imho. YMMV. :thumbup1:

I think that too. This thing really slaughtered my face today. The only thing I can surmise from reading around is that maybe I had increased my angle for the older, duller blade, which caused the newer, sharper blade to eviscerate my cheek.

Are there any recommendations on afforable (maybe not cheap, but not really expensive either) straight razor set ups (razor, strop, maybe better brush)?

That depends on what your budget is.
As for the shavette I think a real razor is easier I used mine about 3 times before I got a real one.

The gold dollar/filly strop combo from ruprazor.com is pretty highly-regarded for a good quality starter set and it's only $60 shipped in the US.

I'm still waiting for mine so I can't speak from personal experience, but it was recommended to me several times.
