What's new

Kampfe Star

I found this Kampfe Star razor today. Unfortunately, there was no case/tin (not sure which this one would have had) and it is not in the best shape. A fair amount of the plating is worn off, but I'll be able to clean it up somewhat. Yet, it just looked so interesting that I had to get it. Hopefully, I didn't get ripped off. It was $17. Is there any chance of shaving with something like this? I think they originally took some sort of wedge blade, but is it possible to get anything to fit for it? I also acquired my first SE (the ever ready in the box) so I'll be picking up some SE blades tomorrow and I'll try those, but I don't think they'll fit in this Kampfe Star razor. Any tips?

Congratulations on a nice find! You have a 1902, model HR-14A.

Since both of the blade guards on each edge are present, it should shave OK. Some guys have used these with currently-made SE blades (e.g., the Gems by Personna at many drug/grocery stores) and said they shave great. I haven't tried it yet with mine.

I'll definitely report back when I give it a try. I'm a bit apprehensive about it because the blade guards allow for a far amount of room, which I imagine will be much thicker than a modern SE blade. But ... who knows? I'll head to the store tomorrow to pick up some blades and give it a try Wednesday morning. Afterwards, I'll post how it went.

I'm not sure if it's a 'new model.' I just got it and know nothing about it. If you want some more photos, then let me know if what and I'll do what I can tomorrow.

Also, should have asked before... is it the 'new model'? That's what I'm checking out at the moment.....

I have one just like that and yes, it does accept the SE blade.

Before you insert the blade you need to hang the spring clip onto the back plate to get it out of the way. The side clips will hold the blade down and then you lift the back clip off of the backplate to press against the spine of the blade and hold it in place.

Great! Thanks for the helpful tip, Chris. I look forward to being able to give it a try in the morning.
