Kampfe Star Safety?

I saw this end on eBay a few hours ago. Does anyone know anything about it? What year is it from and would it use regular SE blades? Is this a lather catcher I've heard so much about?

I've got one listed in the B/S/T/ that takes the modern SE blades in addition to the wedge blades that are with it.

I am only guessing here, but I suspect this one is pre-1900 and also does not take the SE blades. Not really a lather catcher in terms I've come to think of them anyway, as those generally have an open side under the blade.

There is a Gem Lather Catcher on offer now, which also showed only the rear of the head in the pictures. I mentioned this in a message to the seller, and he actually added some more pictures showing additional angles. So it might be worth while trying that with this seller, too. The Gem has already gone beyond what I'm prepared to pay, though.

I shaved with a similar one (different handle) to that on Sunday. Mine took a GEM SE blade without any dramas. As for date, they would range from around 1885 up to 1905 as a guess.

Did the one you used have a hinge? This one appears to be one of the type that did not have a hinge (I don't have one like this yet). I had read that those without a hinge would not accept a standard SE (not sure why, and I cannot verify, just that mine all do accept them, and are hinged, from 1902 and later).

On the Star in this picture, the plate that supports the blade is hinged, and it does have small blade stops - SE blade fit is very dicey - it can easily move upwards. Another Star I have is not hinged, has equally small blade stops, but holds a SE blade securely.

Well, I won't play stupid anymore. I actually ordered that razor in the top pic (without really knowing anything about it). It was $45 with 3 other razors (two micromatics and an eversharp-shick injector). I do hope it takes regular SE blades, but I suppose it isn't all that bad of a loss if it doesn't. Thanks for all the responses, gents.
