K.I.S.S - Travel Gear

I'm a fan of Keep It Simple Stup.. , well you know how the saying goes. We had to take a trip down to Boston Children's Thursday-Friday so I needed to pack shave gear. First I don't own a travel case or it'd be packed. I started to compile a bunch of things and got ahead of myself when I paired it back. This is what I came up with, I could've added more but didn't need to. What do you guy use for your travel gear?

Been thinking about this myself since I’ll be flying to France for about 10 days in March (covid permitting). I’m still figuring some things out so I’ll be following this thread with interest, but right now I’m thinking:

Razor: Probably my Henson. Could go with my old Sensor, I still have 3 carts for it, but I’d rather not. I’ll be checking a bag so blades won’t be a problem. Should probably get me a cover like yours, @Berwick12

Blades: I expect to shave 4 times, so I can probably get away with just loading one and sticking with it.

Brush: Trying to decide if I should get a small travel brush or just go without. It’s just 4 shaves after all.

Cream: Got a little 1.5 oz AoS tube for this purpose. Or a shave stick instead if I bring a brush.

Aftershave: Was looking at this the other day, I think Nancy Boy had some semi-reasonably priced travel size AS. Never tried it before though.

BIC Metal razors, Speick soap stick, Razorock Bruce brush, small dropper bottles with witch hazel & Speick aftershave. If flying, I like to carry everything on to avoid having to check baggage. If driving, I might bring a Gillette Tech razor instead of the BICs.

My travel set-up (definitely KISS)

Brush: Simpsons Wee Scot (in pharmacy bottle)
Soap: La Toja stick (works well in most any water)
Razor: Lord L6
Blades: mailed to my hotel or picked up on site
Splash: small plastic bottle in carry on

:a29::a29:

Simpson Special pure brush w/ travel case. It helps it being one of my favorite brushes.
Gillette Tech in my Gillette Heritage case
Cella container filled with whatever Stirling soap I choose to go with.

Optional- Nivea Balm. Forgot to pack it once and realized I didn't really need it. I just won't go crazy rinsing my face.

If I fly I'll pack a cartridge.

Somewhere between 61 and dead
Depends on why I'm going somewhere. Going for fun I'll usually pack some kind of DE, usually a slant like a Merkur 37. I have a boar brush or synth (depending on whether I'll be in one place mostly or going several places). An old metal mug, a puck of soap. If I'm driving I'll take blades, if not I'll find some when I land.

Going for not-fun I will probably not want to spend half an hour in the morning having a luxurious shave without coffee. So the Wahl 5-Star Super Close goes with me and I will be acceptably planed off in about five minutes.

O.H.

I like to have several optional go to’s with travel gear, depending on where I’m staying, how I’m getting there and how long I will or will not be staying.

For example,

Soaps: Arko stick in a pill bottle for air travel and short stays or VDH Deluxe melted in a bigger twist up deodorant stick for travel by car and longer stays.

I also like to take smaller travel brushes. Synthetic Travel from Maggard’s for quick overnight or turn around travel and an Omega Mighty Midget for weekends or longer stays.

On Razors, if it’s a quick overnight, I can take a cheap Trac II Cart or plastic Merkur 45.

Or if It’s a weekend trip one of my cheaper Shavett’s work nicely.

If it’s going to be a week or longer, I can take an Old Type and New head with an Old handle that works for both heads. I keep it in a mint tin for travel.
I can also take a Gillette travel Tech or GEM Push Button for great shaves.

Taking a 2 night road trip. I hope this is enough:

Razor: RazoRock Hawk V3-OC
Blades: 1 Kai Mild (loaded in razor, a single blade should last me 10-20 shaves)
Brush: Simpson T1
Soap: 2 Captain's Choice cream samplers
Aftershave: 2 Captain's Choice aftershave samplers

Leaving the preshave and bowl at home, which will be a whole new shaving experience for me.

I have really been liking the land ho scent the past few days. Since I am not going on my tropical vacation for the second year in a row I am getting my tropical scent fix another way.

I’ve posted this before and it’s changed slightly since then, but I generally travel as though I’m a 19th century Lord in an Agatha Christie novel. When I was traveling for work full time I definitely kept the KISS model in mind. These days? Not so much. 😁

A freshly loaded Schick Injector razor. (Injector blades last me 10 to 12 days, and Schick Injector razors are light weight.) One fresh can of Barbasol canned goo. One small tube or jar of body lotion or hand cream. That all I need for a happy face. Three small items.

Great thread.

Today I put some SMN soap into an old metal peppermint container I got as a free gift when I purchased the SMN soap - what better use for it hey? It's a wide enough but thin container, shuts securely, and holds about 40g (1+ oz ) of product, perfect really.

My current travel setup now consists of a Kai disposable open comb razor, and a Simpson Classic 1 synthetic. Aftershave is normally cold water from the hotel tap, or an ice cube / Cognac from the minibar.
