What's new

What are the better travel cases for DE these days?

What are the better travel cases these days for a DE razor packed away in a shave kit or suitcase pocket? I want something reasonably tough for baggage handlers and being tossed into a rental car but, it doesn't need to be bomb proof for a war zone. It would be nice if it didn't cost more than the razor itself (likely an EJ 3one6 or Muhle Rocca) or being excessively big or heavy (think air travel).

When I Overland, I guess a small Pelican case might be worthwhile but, even there size and bulk are excessive.

Nice for the price.

I like the DS Cosmetic pouches.

I have all of them:

Normally, I use my Leather WCS B&B Branded pouch.

This is another option as the WCS one is long gone. They are leather, inexpensive and fully protect any size razor I own.

fwiw, i simply wrap DE razor head with toilet paper and toss it into the dopp kit!
lots of cushion in the kit and no worry.

I picked up this Mühle head cover maybe 15 yrs ago. Works like a charm with or without the handle on with a rubber band. I can leave a blade in, but it can slip off and potentially cut something without being secured.

Plenty of guys have made cases out of Altoid tins and foam, 3-D printed inserts… some even wood and velvet lined. Limited only by the imagination and skill sets really

I use one strikingly similar from Mr. Fine...
I have a few Mr. Fine pouches. Here's one of them:

I like that the flaps are only stitched at the edges, so I can slide my 2"x 3" stainless steel mirror under the razor and blades (a perfect fit).

The Mr. Fine pouch cons are:
  • The straps that hold the blades and the head are squint. This makes it awkward to place them properly. (All my Mr. Fine pouches are the same [purchased at different times]).
  • The studs can be a swine to close.
The DS Cosmetics pouches are fully stitched (so adding a mirror isn't possible), but all their straps are nice and square and the studs operate perfectly (not to mention that they're a damn sight less expensive).

I got one of these off Aliexpress and it didn't fit my razor and the quality was pretty bad. Turned out I got a full refund on it.

If someone has a good reference to one that works with modern DE razors, I'd appreciate a link to it.

The Mr. Fine version are new to me so, I'll check them out.

I have several from Spearhead and satisfied with the size and quality.

Stay away from the Khaki Case from Razor Emporium if your handle is not a ball end Tech type handle as many handles will not fit.

What DE razors have you tried the case with? Will it hold a Muhle Rocca or EJ 3one6? I like the overall style but, my prior version was a complete disaster. Too small and poor quality.

This one being 100% USA made and materials is promising. 500D Cordura as well should make it pretty bullet proof for most travel scenarios I have.

I bought these back a few years ago to protect my razors when travelling and when selling or gifting razors also.
They are not Pelican cases but similar and affordable for holding a razor. The folding type like @Cal showed work also excellent IMO.

Have some great shaves!
I have a couple headed my way as of a few moments ago! Huge thank you! These should work really well for me and, if I PIF or sell razors in the future should be a great option for the USA Mail.

The DE shaver has several options for his travel kit.

Firstly there is the replica Khaki kit from Razoremporium, with this one, the razor & blade bank was purchased separately. But they also sell them with a razor & pack of blades.

Next, there is the Merkur Travel case. Not only does it hold all Merkur razors, as my 34c beautifully demonstrates. I have discovered that it also holds a Fatboy quite nicely.

And finally from my collection. Many Vintage Gillettes were sold in Bakelyte cases, as this Flat Bottom Tech demonstrates. If you keep an eye on Ebay, razorless cases occasionally show up.
