What's new

Just thinking out loud here...

Ok, seeing as I'm still new to the realm of the DE shave, I feel I have a pretty decent handle on the razor (exp will come with use). Where I feel my technique is needed is in the lather dept.

I'm still experimenting with different soaps, that's the easy part, what I would like to get down is the method. Onto my point.

I've been reading about all the different preferences in mugs, bowls, scuttles, etc. And quite honestly it can be a bit much to take in and settle on a direction to go in. What I think I may do is get a 3 maybe 4 of these to keep a variety of soaps in.

And then focus more on the mug or bowl for the actual lather creation. I've found some mugs are either too deep, narrow, or maybe wide enough and a little deep. I hate clanging my brush on the mug.

I've been using this but I think it's a little too deep. Fellow IT guys will get the joke.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Looks like you're going in the right direction. The mug is the same size as mine. To keep the brush from banging the sides, I just move my fingers down the sides of the brush to act as a barrier and whirl away. Welcome aboard!

Have you ever tried face lathering? I just tried it and was very happy with the results. Maybe give it a shot next shave?:001_smile

P.s. cool mug!

Try storing your soaps in one of these, I use them to mill my Williams and to hold other soaps.

I bought a pack 3 pack of 4oz bowls, I think it was for $3-4 or something like that at DG, you should be able to find them or the ziploc brand ones at your local grocery store.

They come in different sizes, I prefer the smaller bowls myself.
