What's new

Just received my new Feather AS-D1 and WOW!

I just finished shaving with it and a feather blade and got BBS on the face in three passes. My neck was DFS after three passes (ATG doesn't agree with neck). It didn't feel like it was doing anything, but it was doing a great job. This was on three days of growth for me, so I can't wait to see what I get after just one day. This is the best purchase I have made right next to Tabac shaving soap!

Good to hear! I'll be purchasing the Feather AS-D2 in a few weeks when it comes out. Can't wait to try.

Congrats on getting a fine razor and your success with it. I have found when you are comfortable with this razor loaded with a Feather blade, you can slowly buff ATG while dragging a finger or two ahead of the razor to tackle those problem areas on the neck. Enjoy the journey.

Congrats you lucky man. I was on the verge of buying one tonight but have been advised to wait for the 2. I wish you many BBS shaves with the new gear.

JUst got mine today as well (from a B&B'er). Got a little razor burn on my head (going ATG on the back) but that was my fault since the growth was to heavy for a ATG pass (I cannot shave down the back of my head; it just seems awkward).

Love the razor, Very smooth

After 7+ years of DE shaving I notice that during the last 18 months I have been reaching for my Feather almost exclusively.
I have come to the conlusion that this is probably my Holy Grail razor. I shave 6 - 7 times per week and am used to getting a BBs everytime. This is my baseline so to speak. With the Feather it's all about how to get there. My rotation includes 4 classics ( CooncatBob old, lc NEW, sc NEW and a Tech). By rotating these according to how the blade loses its edge I have been very happy. With the Feather and a IKON OC and OSS baseplate I have the same opportunity to rotate razor according to blade dulling. The difference is that the Feather/IKON combo is tighter, the differences in the heads are smaller. This suits me just perfect! Only problem is that the IKON build quality and color is not up to the Feathers. Need to replate the combo...

Do you find you can use the Feather to do more passes/touch up because its more mild?

I shave every day 2+ passes. One XTG and one ATG. I then 'stretch the mix' and 'bronze' what little is left. The result is ALWAYS BBS (true porcelain). My firm standpoint is that the Feather is not overly mild when used correctly. It's a matter of practice and patient zen; no shortcuts. If you need guidance how to achieve a good handling check out http://www.hydrolast.com/Method_Shaving.html . The idea is to have a truly perfect glide and use it to cut the whiskers. I myself don't use the products anymore but I have adopted the stretching and bronzing into my daily routine. I don't much care for the 'form' stuff though...

PS. Long time since Charles Roberts was mentioned/bashed on these pages !

Did you get the one with the stand?

Yes sir. I wasn't going to but at the last second decided, if I like this razor and am going to keep it, it is only appropriate to have the original stand for it, so I caved in and got the one with the stand. $271 for a piece of metal.. sigh. I sure hope it works well! Still less expensive than many other places tough, west coast was selling the kit for $315 when they had the AS-D1 w/stand.

I want the stand as well... but the price of getting the stand is absolutely killer

Look at it this way, this is a one time investment. (unless you are one that just has to have every razor on the market). If this is the razor for you, you save by not having to buy those $3 a piece cartridge razors (instead you pay about 20 cents) so you save about $15 a month right there if not more. If you electric shaved, you would probably spend $200+ on a good razor. If this razor ends up not being the one for you.. you can flip it in the BST part of this forum and probably only lose $40 or $50 on it if you quickly find out the razor isn't for you and keep the box and everything like brand new. If it is as good as it sounds and it is "THE" razor for you... it has its stand, is kept nice and will last a lifetime and you still come out ahead. That's how I reasoned it.. and the comfort of knowing you can always sell it on here and take a minimal lose is very comforting.

The way it cuts better than my DE89E, my vote is that it is more aggresive, but very smooth.

More aggressive than a DE89? I have to disagree with that. Not that the DE89 is an "aggressive" razor. The Feather is definitely less efficient than the DE89 IMHO, though it can get the job done for some folks...if you have the angles just right.

I get a smoother shave and it gets me BBS with the same number of passes as the DE89. As a result, it is at least an equal in my opinion after using the DE89 for 2 years and the Feather one time. I will obviously get better with the Feather, so it will likely improve more for me relative to the DE89.

They are very nice razors. I sold the one I had a few months ago. Just had way too many razors and it went in a 30+ item den clean out.
