What's new

Just ordered some shaving soap...

Since joining the DE party a couple of months ago, all I've been using is Proraso's shaving cream (green tube, majority of my shaves) and Cremo Cream (just a couple of shaves) and although I'm very happy with Proraso's performance and OK with Cremo's, after thoroughly reading this subforum for the past 2-3 days, I decided that it was time for me to try some soaps.

What I ordered this morning:

- C&E Sandalwood Shave Soap
- Mama Bear Rosemary Mint Glycerin Shave Soap
- Mama Bear Ye Olde Barbershoppe Shave Soap
- Proraso Green Tea and Aloe Shaving Soap

Additionally, I'm also getting Truefitt & Hill sample pack just because.

I think may have gone a bit overboard today ... what do you guys think ?

I'm sure I do... and I'm positive that I will get quite a few more (already have a few in mind), but I'm kind of taking baby steps here. Price isn't much of a factor for me, but what I really need is good lather/performance and a nice smell.

Please feel free to post any suggestions. I like menthol/icy/citrusy combos, but I'm definitely open to try other things too.

Nice start....you need a few more though:001_rolle

I really would not want to go without:

PdP
CADE
Speick stick
and as of today MWF

PdP has a very nice sage smell, CADE a very mild but pleasant juniper and both make excellent lather. These two are my most used soaps.

Speick has a much bigger spicy scent and also lathers very well.

MWF...one shave in and it is super. A mild perfume/soap smell but a very slick smooth shave with excellent lather.

Williams also is in my rotation...not as often as the above but it is decent...not superior but decent and priced well.

I do not have any that really fall into the menthol or citris zone....

So many soaps...so little time...

Overboard?? I don't think any of us b&b'ers ever go overboard on acquiring new shaving supplies!

Sounds like you got yourself some good soap. Enjoy!

You did fine. When you make your next order, get some Provence Sante, and a soap from SaintCharlesShave.com

Both are excellent.

Yeah - you've got some good ones there but you should also try Castle Forbes - lime and cedarwood and sandalwood - they are amazing and so too is any Taylor of old Bond Street - sooo nice, great lather, kind on the face and although expensive to buy both C Forbes and TOBS last for ages - a little goes a long way!

I'm really wanting to try some Castle Forbes...

Thanks for your suggestions, guys.

Additionaly, I think I'll pick up either a TOBS or a Trumper soap tomorrow since there's a local store that carries them and it's just a 10 minute drive from my place. They supposedly have all of them available, so I'm sure I'll have fun trying to decide which one I'm taking home :001_smile.

I'll keep Castle Forbes and Provence Sante in mind the next time I have to place an online order (or maybe I'll be lucky and they'll have them available at the aforementioned store).

Trumper soap is nice, despite not having tallow. If I may recommend one, I would suggest getting the rose.

Rose and/or Violet are the soaps I'm considering the most based on what I've read.

While I can't speak to the Trumper's Rose soap, I've found the TOBS Rose Cream too strong. It's not a "masculine rose" at all, and I found it irritating to my skin.

If this establishment carries D R Harris soaps, consider Arlington. It's a fine soap and doesn't overlap (scent-wise) with your other purchases.

Overboard is not recognised on this forum! You can never have too many soaps or creams!

You've got hundreds more to try, so I'm not going to name any! Find what works best for you and gives you the most enjoyment, and don't be too quick to get rid of something that you think might not be your cup of tea. A lot of guys (OK, me for the prime example) get rid of something and after a while, decide maybe I liked that one more than I thought! Enjoy the hunt!

Mama Bear Mandarin Ice and/or Lime Ice! Oooooh the face freeze is so nice. :w00t:

+1 on the Lime Ice. It was my first Mama Bear purchase and I am glad I picked it up. Menthol with a nice fresh lime scent. I am probably going to get the Awakenings in the next order, which I hear is an even more intense menthol.

I do think you missed a step in your journey though. You should get yourself some Tabac. It was my first soap and I think I will have a puck of it in my home until they stop making it.

Also, I just tried Cremo and liked it a lot. If you resisted the urge to follow the directions (I did on my first pass and tried to brush up some lather), try it with no brush like it says on the tube. I was very impressed.

We can help send you out of control with soaps. So I'll just keep my mouth shut 'til you've at least tried what you've got in round one. :)
