What's new

Just met a member

Over the course of time I came to discover a fellow Pennsylvanian who ironically enough lives not 10 minutes from me. Turns out he got a couple of straights for some work he did and was wondering if I'd be interested in having them. He said he had no plans on ever using them , liked my work, and rather than leave them in a drawer for the next 20 yrs. he'd rather someone enjoy them.
Well,, sure, I'm game.
So we met at a local Dunkin Donuts.
Now,, get two guys together with a common interest,,and me showing up with a razor I'm currently working on and a bag full (20+) brush handles I've made spread over the table and his two razors in the mix...well ,,we had to be a sight I'm sure. Gabbing one over the other trying to get it all out. I had a blast.
I couldn't just take his razors so we made a trade,,I gave him a recently made Butterscotch and a wood ( Dogwood) handles as he's interested in setting knots.
Besides that, I got to see some examples of his work. Fused glass. Amazing stuff he does. So much talent. Like I said, get two guys together with what turned out to be many common interests .
It was the start to a great day.
Thanks Dalecooper51,, I enjoyed myself.
Anytime anyone is in the Allentown, Bethlehem area,, look us up. We can spread even more stuff over the tables and really draw some looks.

i'm sure we could come up with a little lehigh valley meet up of some sort. although, a bunch of guys showing off their gear in a dunkin donuts might get a little uncomfortable for the staff.

i'm game, and a coworker of mine is a member on b&b too (i took the plunge to wetshaving and de razors last fall and quickly got him hooked too) -- i'm sure he'd be up for something.

I still consider myself a Newb to wet shaving and probably don't have a lot of experience to share (other than a new found love for this new hobby :biggrin1:). However, I would be interested in a meet up with a group of Lehigh Valley wet shavers.:thumbup1:

Great story!

I've met over 35 B&B'rs and one was nicer than the next.

There was a "who have you met" thread a while ago, I could not find it.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bluefire ( Bob ) just before he went off to an isolated island just north of Tasmania with his wife to do some caretaking.

Now we hadn't even corresponded much via B&B, but we met for a coffee and just shot the breeze.

Even though we'd never met before, even though there was about a 15 year age gap ( he's older :tongue_sm ) we had a pleasant hour or so. Obviously in the end we talked about our common interest..razors, but we talked about everything else in life as well, families, work, passions......... I even took him to one of my "secret" local razor finding spots ( they didn't have anything that day but a week later when I went back picked up a #77 .....worked out good huh :001_smile )

He's just finished his 3 month tenure and we're meeting up again once he's back in Tassie ( he must be desperate for someone to talk to besides Trish :001_rolle ) . Something I'm looking forward to so I can hear about his trip ( even though I've followed some of it on his wife's blog )

The only other guys I've ever done this with is from a motorcycling forum that I've been a member of for years.

My wife thinks it's a bit weird me meeting all those blokes that I've only ever chatted with on the internet

It's great how common interests on the internet can bring together people in real life no matter what walk of life they come from

Just saw this thread and it was nice meeting you also.

The handles you carved are amazing.

Just set the knots and that Butterscotch Chubby is a lather making monster.

I'll definitely post some pics when I get a chance.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It's nice to see that flesh and blood relationships can grow out of virtual ones.
