What's new

just got a Tech travel

I know people don't think real highly of the Tech travels but I just got one yesterday and think it's so neat! It's a 1961 mint, never been used with the case and an unopened blade and I got it for $10. I'm not sure if it was a good deal or not but honestly I bought it for actually traveling and I thought it was a nice addition to my collection. I'm amazed at the quality that Gillette put into such an (even at the time) inexpensive item and how far they have fallen from grace with the junky Mach 3s, Sensors, Fusions, etc.

Believe me: that was a very good deal! And by the way, those little buggers are awesome shavers. You won't be disappointed :biggrin1:

Good deal indeed. Even if you find that handle too short, you can use that head on another handle. I have a Cooncat Bob Ultra-Lite Bull Mastiff handle, which I used with a Tech head a few times. Nice combo, and looks really neat.

Good idea! I hadn't even thought about using the head on another handle.

$10 is a good price.

I wonder what the deal is with those Travel Techs as I have yet to see one that has been used.

I got one w/o case for 1.80 near mint gives nice shaves. I've seen them slightly used, but never beat up like other razors probably cause of the small handle people only used them for travel would be my guess?

I've got 3 travel kits with those little techs-they're very cool. I have not tried one yet but I do love the way techs shave-as long as it has a Feather in it.
Anybody out there actually shave with one?

yeah I do they actually are really good because of the short handle makes you use less pressure. You also can take it off and put the head on other razor handles like other techs including copies like the lord tech.

I cannot comment on the shave quality on the Travel Tech. I did get one about a year ago in it's orginal pouch, it looks unused. Good score.

Thanks all for making me feel good about my purchase. I'm actually planning on trying it out Saturday morning to see how it does.

The Travel Tech was the first Tech I shaved with. It worked great. The short handle took a bit to get used to, but nothing too difficult. Now I have two - one in a metal case and a NOS one in a red leather zip case.

Great pick-up. You will enjoy it.

I have 3 travel techs. 1 is English and the other 2 are American. I made a full length handle for it today. Lathe turned from solid hexagonal brass rod. Turned about 10 grooves in the handle with a parting tool for grip. About to go try it out now.
I paid $1.04 for my last travel tech. I paid around $10.00 for another and got the third as part of a lot of 13 razors plus 2 brushes plus a twinplex stropper for $56.00 off the bay. Don't feel like I got screwed at all. The English tech was in the lot.

My father saw mine and commented that he'd had an identical one, and it was difficult for him to "take off the hair without slicing myself all up", with the short handle.

I've got a plan in mind to take a thick-handled NEW traveling, and bring the travel tech head along for a less aggressive option to the open comb.
