What's new

Just got a Feather AS-D1 shaver today

Still a beginner and just started DE shaving after years of electric shaving (using a Braun Activator but it spoilt and failed to work) and would like to explore more about the traditional art of shaving.
Just had my first DE shave with AS-D1 using Gillette Super Nachet blades, I don't get any nicks or burns and just 2 pass, its Baby smooth shave!

Its really a wonderful experience with DE world of shaving.

Welcome to B and B, and Merry Christmas!! Congrats on a successful first time out, and you have an awesome "starter" kit. :thumbup1:

Merry xmas to you too!
I also ordered a Merkur Futur (for myself) and a Merkur HD (for my in-law) but still waiting for the shipment to come. Wondering Futur or AS-D1 is a better shaver?

I have read great things about both razors, though the Futur will be more aggressive (as well as adjustable) than the AS-D1.

Wow! I can really feel my RAD starting to itch, and my newly bought Merkur 39c hasn't arrived yet!

Feather AS-D1. Must make sure to update the wish list for next Christmas.

Futur will be the more aggressive of the two by quite a margin. I typically use a Future set on 3 with a feather if I skip a couple days of shaving....mows the whiskers down without any problems. Be careful however, thats a pretty unforgiving setup and if your technique isnt on or your rushing, your face will show it.

how about setting the futur on "1" setting is it more mild than the Feather AS-D1?

Would probably be pretty close, been a while since I used the feather AS....ended up getting rid of it because it was too mild for my tastes. The futur runs a pretty wide blade gap, is heavy so it lends itself to be a bit more aggressive razor...but at a setting of one with a Red Ip, medical personna, Lord plat, or similar blade you shouldn't have too much trouble adjusting to it.

its my 3rd day shaving with this shaver using Gillette Super Nachet blades.
I shave against the grain and this time..its really smooth! :)

No nicks, any forms of irritation or whatever...very nice!
Loving this shaver even more! :001_wub:

I fell in love again with my futur a few days ago, after almost a year of DE shaving.

The first time I used it a year ago, I was darning every second that I was scrapping my face with it. Just goes to show that experience makes a huge difference.

This is now my "go to" razor.
